Beautiful room! I suggest to leave the corners free of any items. Your wainscoating adds enough interest to the corners. “Less is more”.

With your wainscotting/paneling I would say let them show!! Why cover them with anything? One larger plant in a room is sufficient, just sayin.

Pull the large plant out a bit ... it doesn't have to be pushed all the way back into the corner. I would also look for a more interesting pot/container for it. Take your time and the right piece will come along.

I'm of a different opinion. While the room looks ok, without a rug and end tables, it looks a bit unfinished. I would put a leafy tree in the right corner, something airy, and a small round table next to the sofa on the left side. Instead of the plant in the other corner, I would find an interesting tall statue. On the window, the plants would look better if contained in an window box, but keep the cat! It's really a beautiful room. Oh, and I just want to jump in and rearrange your pillows. I also want a rug, but it's your house not mine.

I have a rug at my main entrance and I had the feeling that if I put a rug in my living room , I would put one in the dining too. So I was like , hope it doesn’t look too ruggy, with three rugs in this space.

I'm terrible at this because I can search endlessly for the perfect anything and never find it. Single truck tree with airy leaves, sparser than this olive tree and of course with a fabulous planter. The statue can be of anything, but should be tall and thin. Find something you really love.

Regarding the rugs, your front door rug is really big, if you add another rug downsize that one to the width of the door and about 2.5" out. Your dining area is barebones. Are you thinking of putting a cabinet agains the wall with the diamonds? For you living room, a rug that goes half way under the sofas and about a foot out from each sofa end. I would find something fairly flat weave and neutral, textured, or a faint pattern and color.

To me what seems missing are lamps, and/ or other forms of layered lighting. Otherwise, are you reliant just on very high ceiling lights at night? If any.

So, end table with lamps, or floor lamp, or combination. But, I know some people are horrified at having electrical cords , plus, it from where the outlets in the room are, or adding one. But usually, with the right table, or a floor lamp that can be close to wall and arc over, or something, you can minimize the cords. Electrical cord issues are part of the fallout of large open spaces, and floating furniture ( yes, I know floor outlets can be placed, but depends on flooring) compared to smaller, defined rooms.

Also, I’m not a fan of fake plants, though to each her own.
So as people suggest this or that plant for “ the corners”, I would only use live plant(s) that can thrive in the available natural light. Which might dictate which corner is a plant corner, and whether an “ airy tree” would thrive, vs a snake plant on a stand.

I’m a fan of live plants. One corner is kind of shady because of long drapes, I can get a snake plant. I have lots of lights in all the rooms. I mean chandeliers, wall lights, ceiling lights, so personally I want something else instead of floor lamps.

I have this plant in the corner, left of the fireplace. But nothing in the other two corners

Sorry, I just meant those as tree ideas, I would never suggest a plastic plant! From the look of the living room and dining room I thought you were a minimalist. You definately need other things in the living room, tables, lamps etc. as others have mentioned. I would put the plant to right of fireplace, round table to left and something in the other corner, I think a tall statue would be fabulous. Others can help with the dining room. I know my big bird is not everyones cuppa, but if you saw it in my garden, partially hidden as if in the jungle, you would think I was a decorating genius.

Hahaha 😂 thanks a lot Gigi. And yes I’m a minimalist. If I put too many things, after few days I just find it too cluttered. So that explains that I’m a minimalist. But yes I love the idea of putting plant to the right, and to the left a round table. Should I put two round tables , I mean they can be two different sizes?? And since I’m a live plant lover, I can put some books with plants on them. Third corner, still don’t know. Never had big size statues in my house before.

Gotcha. If you have other lighting, no need to get lamps just for spaces.

I do like having end tables compared to coffee table if drinks ( of any sort) are part of how you use the room, because I find it so convenient to reach to the side rather than bend over to a coffee table. But, it may not be a tea - and- cookie room. And books— if the light is good, I gravitate to such places to read.

We spend most of our time in the family room. Living room is just an extra space if we have multiple families coming for get togethers.

Since we do not use this space a lot so on the tables I can add some pieces or live plants. I have lots of plants around my house.

As suggested I placed the plant on the right side of the fireplace. And on the left it was suggested that I should put round table. I have to go shopping for it, which I will. I have a side table sitting in my garage, it’s not round though but I will grab it and place it on the left to get an idea about the things I need to put on that side table.

And the other tall plant that was in the living room didn’t have enough support of the wall. So I had to move it. I placed it on the stairs landing

Ok, I have an exercise for you. Take a look at the plant on the stair landing and kinda blur your eyes and take note of contract and mass. mass meaning the items that take up visual space. Look for balance. The stair rails are balanced. The tree isn't balanced by anything. Not that everything needs to be balance, I actually prefer not to have things two by two. If the plant were not so dense, ti might work, plus you would need at taller more interesting planter. To me, what would fit here, if you HAVE to have something, would be a bench that goes with the style of your house. I normally would say no to a bench because, well who would sit on it. Even though I am a form before function person. Since you just moved in, and you're a minimalist, take your time choosing the things that will make your house a home. At this point you don't have anything that shows your interests or personality, well, except for that cat in the window. It's something you wouldn't find in anyones home. Not that everything needs to be one of a kind, but you need to love it enough that you wouldn't want to replace it. In my living room there are things that you would not find at homegoods, in fact, many things you would have a hard time finding at all. Because I choose things that I love then make it work. That plant in the corner of the fireplace does not look good, why? Because it is too short and brings the eye down and the pot is white. The planter is a place that you could enhance by bringing in color or texture. One thing to note, your furnishings are farmhouse and your house is traditional glam. They are not so farmhouse that they look bad, just different style. And really, it's mostly the coffee table and the dining table. And the sofas are a bit casual. If I had the creative energy I would redesign your living room and dining room. If you are not married to the furniture, your house is worthy of getting a designer in and making it spectacular. By the pillows I see you arent' totatally a color phobic, bringing in some color would make your home more lively to the eye. If you had a designer to help, you would walk into your living room every day and feel like you were in a magazine. Not everyone wants that, but I think you do. Sorry for the length of this post. Once my fingers get going, every thought pours out. Lastly, a beautiful floor lamp would really be nice in the corner, as others have mentioned, for two reasons, raised the eye and at night would be beautiful on. Ok, the end. This describes my house perfectly, even though I just recently found it. When I walk into my living room I see things that have personal memories, I love for their beauty, uniqueness, etc, OR I can sit on.

Sorry, I have more to say. Some people love the, what I call, Furniture Store Look. They go into a furniture store and want their space to look exactly like it. And that is perfectly fine. In fact, when I look at those rooms I feel a sense of calm and strangely, a lack of feeling. I don't look at things and wonder about them. Where did they originate, what meaning do they have to the person who lives there. If someone has personal photos in their home, I feel a connection to them and have a glimpse into their lives. If I go to a furniture store, I feel nothing. No emotions, no connections. You need to decide what YOU want to feel in your own home. Forget about other people, you don't decorate for others, otherwise you lose yourself. Now, sometimes things that have no meaning at the time grow on you and you attach emotions to them through daily living with them. But please listen to William Morris. If you feel the the farmhouse table is beautiful and you love it, even though others might think it doesn't go with your home (me) others be damned, it's your house and you should do what makes you happy in it. ok, really, the end. I should go do xmas returns to keep me away from posting more. It's just that decorating your home is more feeling than furniture.

Thanks Gigi for all the details. The cat in my living room is very close to my heart. My very loving aunt made it for me. I love making my space beautiful with few pieces which are lovely. Yes I just built this house and I’m trying to beautify it. I’m looking for a rug. I found one , put it in the family room but it’s too small for my family room, so waiting for my husband to come back from work to help me to move that into the living room.

I think rugs help define spaces, add warmth and color. Maybe someone can add a rug to her seating area to give her an idea of how it would look.

I would remove the one at the front door first so you can assess one - fairly - in the main area.
