Quartz - veins or no veins?

last year

Our cabinets are pure white with black pulls and flooring is Coretec Grand Makkah. It’s hard to find quartz with brown tones without a lot of gold and with a white (not creamy) background.

I don’t want a quartz countertop with a “muddy” background

I put the wrong picture of the veined quartz.

Most "white" quartz will look gray/cool once installed. Make sure to bring large samples home to see in your actual lighting. We see it here quite often ... people install a "white" quart and then their white cabinets look yellow next to it.

I can’t add a picture or edit the post. The veined quartz we are looking at has light brown veins not as wide as the one in the picture.

@chispa - what color do you like with white cabinets?

    Define "white"!

When you say your cabinets are "pure white", do you mean SW Pure White 7005?

    Yes SW Pure White

Which quartz did you mean to put in your picture?

re: veins: does your plan call for corners or seams in the counters? If so, large veined patterns may be harder to line up at seams, so you'll want to be involved in the templating process. If you post a 2D overhead of your plan, folks can help advise on seam placement if applicable.

I would choose the piece you think will have the most staying power. What's 'in' today won't be next year.

My gut tells me those big veins are going to date sooner rather than later. Of course if you love them, get them.

Add the picture here in the comments.

IMO the larger veined quartz has already had its day and it's passed.

Did your cabinet maker make you a sample door painted in SW Pure White? They should, and you can then take that door to the slab yards. You should also borrow samples of any slabs you are considering and bring those home and again compare with the SW Pure White door sample.

Agreed Mrs Pete, ick to veins yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Your floors are really warm looking. I'd get a sample of the floor and door to bring with you while looking at slabs, although slabs are never in the same lighting as your home, so it is difficult!

I like veins, they give visual character, but thinner and more delicate than the big, wide ones.

"Ant farm" big veiny quartz has never looked good. Avoid the trap of trying to match the quartz background to the stark cabinets. Deliberately contrast instead. A much warmer creamier tone in the stone background, with less prominent veining, will look better long term. Like Daltile's Valor Gold. https://www.daltile.com/products/Slab/ONE-Quartz-Marble-Look/Valor-Gold
