To comment on furniture placement we need a detalled plan of the room with measurements of windows, built-ins, etc.

Just looking at that second photo (!!), I think I'd float the large couch facing the fireplace, and then put the two large chairs on the left side, leaving the stair side open. Nothing lined up to emphasize the offset, and you have a good way to enjoy it.

Agree with an L-shaped seating arrangement. If the sofa is too long to face the fireplace, it could stay against the windows, with two chairs forming the L.

L shaped layout with sofa across from fireplace wall and two chairs across from where they currently are. It will still be off center but won't have the congestion issue.

Swivel chairs will allow those seated to see TV, Fireplace, or (my goodness) engage in conversation!

We think you could easily float a sofa, or small sectional, facing the fireplace on a rug and then place two chairs on the left. It might look a little something like this:

You should be able to float the sofa, on the rug shown in the images, facing the fireplace. Then you could easily add two chairs to where the current sofa is shown. That should create an easy way to place the furniture and you'll still have a walkway near the stairs. It might look a little something like you see in both of these images. Note you don't have to add a third chair, but you could if you needed it and had the room.
