Deer resistant just means less likely to be eaten in favor of other tastier things. Not that deer don't eat it at all. If there aren't other tastier things to be eaten, deer will eat the less tasty things.

Well, sure, but they're pretty far down on the list of tasty. I guess I'll have to spray them in the future.

One of my catalog purchases as a newbie gardener was some kind of giant allium. I was into BIG plants, and obsessed with the idea that these would grow around 5 feet tall. I ordered from Breck's or Vessey's I think, so a well known entity. The package came and there were these 5 small bulbs, about an inch across. Didn't seem right to me - even as a newbie, what I had read was basically the bulbs should be larger than that for the tall varieties. Phoned their customer service, which was nice enough, but they insisted the bulbs were correct - even after putting me on hold and supposedly checking with their "specialists". But they did offer for me to keep the bulbs and they would refund that portion of the order, which I accepted. I did plant the bulbs - and they grew to be about 1 foot in height.
