Fiber cement you can change the color and make repairs. Vinyl gets brittle over time, and when a piece gets damaged you will never be able to match it. Unless this is a property you only plan to be in a couple years there is no question which I would do.

I recently installed Alure brand fiber cement siding on our new home. Very easy to install and paint. My research says that Alure has 3 0 year warranty and 5/1 6" thick. Hardie is 25 year warranty and 1/4" thick.

Although Alure was the only brand available in AK. We like the fact that it is fire proof as we lost a home to a forest fire before. Have fun with your build

My thought was that you have to repair the fiber cement, so there’s still a chance it’s not going to color match unless you repaint everything.
