Cuisinart Food processor with dead motor

Hello:

I have a 12 cup Cuisinart food processor with a dead motor. Of course, it is just past its warranty.

Firstly: I use it almost daily, so, yes, I know how to correctly fit the bowls and align the pins.

Secondly: this is one of thier few models that does NOT have a small "reset" hole.

I tried to use it yesterday, and nothing happened. No buzz, no hum, no quick jerk....nothing. I, of course, checked that everything was in place as it should be. I also tried it on a few different outlets (in different rooms). Nothing.

I hate that we are a disposable society, so I prefert to try to fix it (not to mention that it was $500). Also should mention that although I say that I use it almost every day, it is because I cook fresh meals, and enjoy cooking, but it is not used in any sort of professional manner. Five minutes of light use every couple of days should not be too much wear and tear on the motor.

How long have you had it? Cuisinart has a 3 year warranty on their appliances and a 10 year warranty on the motor. I wuld contact Cuisinart and make sure it is truly out of warranty. I have an older version of your machine. My motor died last month after a major power surge. I was able to find a replacement motor on Ebay for $40 as the rest of my machine is in good shape. I just found my user manual and mine has a 20 year motor warranty so I will be contacting Cuisinart as well.

If you cant get this resolved through Cuisine Art, search for motor how to repair videos on youtube and buy parts on ebay. You may also be able to find some dude with a small appliance repair business willing to have a go at it. Sorry for your frustration.

If that's model FP-12DC, there are lots of bases on ebay. If it's not, search for your model.

I called Cuisinart - I suggest you have them call you back as my wait was estimated to be 38 minutes. They called back sooner than that. AFter a LENGTHY discussion they have agreed to replace my unit. Not sure what I will get but will find out. They started out offering me a 20% disxount. Since I not longer had my receipt they told me they could not replace the unit. They also said the replacement was only under a 3 year warranty not the 20 year motor warranty. I had to read the language of my warranty many times before they agreed to replace as it states if it cannot be repaired (they no longer repair) then the unit would be replaced. My warranty states that if proof of purchase details were not available then manufacture date would be the date of the start of warranty. Since mine was 2010 I was fine wtih that as that is well under 20 years. I had to cut the cord close to the unit and provide them a picture of the unit with the cut cord. So we will see. Let me know if you call them what they will do for you.

Thanks Kim, but I already checked with them and they said that it was a FULL 3 YEAR warranty. Not 10 years on motor.

Did u check ur warranty in ur user manual? if u dont have it is on line i looked at the manual for the one wdccruise mentioned and it says 10 year motor warranty the csr u spoke with may not be familiar with the motor warranty This post caused me to check mine and was surprised when it said 20 years on the motor Dont give up

Don't rely on what anybody says. Find your product on cuisinart.com and read the warranty there. The warranty for the FP-12DC is on page 17 of the Instruction Booklet. That model has a 10 year full warranty on the motor so if the motor fails, cuisinart will repair or replace the unit as described.

Ben I hope you were able to get Cuisinart to replace your base. I wanted to follow up that I received today a replacement food processor - complete new unit. They sent me a 14 Cup processor as my original one was 14 Cups. Retail price of $249. It turns out all of my discs that I got for my original DLC-7 back in the early eighties is compatible with this model.
