Widen Closet…concern if weight bearing support

I want to open my closet like in the second picture to have better access to the
entire closet and the install a closet organizing system. I’m a DIYer but need to be sure the opening is not weigh bearing. Any suggestions?

Are the joists parallel or perpendicular?

Without going into the attic…when I had my kitchen remodel we removed a weight bearing wall and added a support beam in the attic. That wall was going in the same direction as the closet I would like to open. So I think I’ve answered my question, it’s a weight bearing. Now I know I will not be opening that closet! Thank you.

Yes you will need to go in the attic and look to see if the wall is parallel or perpendicular to the joists. If parallel you are clear. If perpendicular you need to see if the joists break on the face wall of the closet, the back wall of the closet, or neither (could be truss)
