Depends a bit on the style of your house. Sure, flowers, or a sculpture -- it's the entry to your house, so you sort of "introduce' your style in your entrance. Could lean a tall picture on one side ans some smaller object along with it. If thiswhole thing makes you nuts, you could have it either made into a cupboard, painted to match the walls, or just close it up with drywall and paint, which would let you hang a mirror or piece of art over a small entry table.

I'd paint just the back two walls a dark color and add a piece of sculptur. ... an heirloom, a local artist's work... something that means something to you.

Art glass or art pottery. You don't have to spend a fortune for it, but it might take a while to find it at a reasonable price in stores.

Will suggest that whatever you put there it be impactful and not just a vase or vase with flowers. Am thinking it should be a real WOW piece.

Is there a light in there? An electrical outlet that could allow you to up light or down light an object? I am all for an interesting piece of art glass that can be illuminated. If you are near a University with an art program, perhaps there is someone who designs/blows glass who could custom make something for you? Or go to a local juried craft/art fair to meet someone with those skills. Sometimes custom is not as expensive as you think. AND…you are supporting local artists.

Consider what would resonate with you and be appreciated as you pass by. For instance, I would like simple/but impactful. Once you identify the look, then selecting the actual piece(s) will be easy.

I agree. Just need to find the right piece at a good height and width to fill the space.

Sometimes less is more and can be striking. Don’t worry about filling the space and test.

Me … I’d maybe have a striking horse sculpture (or two), a collection of interesting old candlestick holders in varying heights and materials, or Mexican Folk Art pottery, to name a few of my own interests. But I don’t know what you like.

We have an awesome antique mall nearby, I know I’d find something vintage and cool there, even if it took a few visits. I also like to go to yearly art fairs for unique things.

In the meantime, I think your flowers look nice — I’d just remove the small bowl and pull the vase forward.

Since you have the tree nearby, I do think a striking sculpture, very large interesting vase, or set of something you like would look very nice.

Or, your vase/other vase with just sticks, rather than flowers.

Paint the inside a dark color and contrast it with a white colored vase or sculpture. Making the space about negative and positive space gives it something of interest beyond just the object you are putting inside.

Ugly stick arrangement but you get the idea of contrast.

Seeing your style and the proximity of the two niches, I’d try to connect them style wise and suggest a less traditional feel. If open to painting the bottom ledges same as wall, adding shelves in the large niche and using accessories that relate…you’d have really nice additions vs just being filled spaces.

That is a large niche. Instead of displaying one large piece I would put glass shelves in it and display a collection of handmade pottery or folk art, or anything else you prefer.
