I would do a pttern on the stair treads to take your eye away form the 2 colors of flooring. I like a very flat weave for stair treads and those pictures hung in the stairwell are not looking good at all you need some sort of plan there if you must hang them there at all. I see you ar eplanning to apint what color are you planning.?

Just an fyi, that is not a terrazzo tile. It is a stone-look or more likely a Travertine-look porcelain tile.

I think you are looking at carpet that is too taupe and does not go with the tile. You need more warm/gold colors.

PCC, the gallery wall has come down in sections as I have the storage capacity for the frames. Nothing will be up there after painting. I am looking to do paint selection after the carpet color is decided. More tortured decisions to come!

Do you mean patterned in multi colored or more monochromatic with texture? I liked a solid one with a chevron but I thought it would be dizzying to look down on.

You need to choose your wall paint at the same time. Once you know what paint colors you are using in both areas it will be easier to find a carpet color that works. Choose a wall color that is warmer for downstairs and more neutral for upstairs. Carpet with slight variation like you currently have is great for stairs and will help connect the spaces.

I had an easier time naming my children than picking out paint colors, but I will try to do that first. Thanks!
