Bedroom Window Treatments

Hi all,

Wondering if I can get some feedback on these curtains I purchased. I recently purchased them and thought they were a nice match with the raffia in the night stands, but now I'm not sure after looking at them for a bit. I also need to press out the wrinkles and change out the rods I purchased some brass ones to make it a little more stylish. I have on order a navy upholstered bed, Andes from West Elm; as well as a dresser in the same color/design as the nightstands. I love the carpet I purchased, which also blends in the yellow and blue colors. I want it to be a serene haven for myself but am wondering if I can accompish that with what I have so far. have yet to get anything on the walls because I'm waiting for the furniture to arrive first. Sharing some photos for reference.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Ana

the drapery fabric is too heavy, too much, and too short.

I would choose a textured Linen with blinds for privacy and light control.

    Serene? not so much.

I see no too short drapes but what is you bedding ? IMO you use the bedding for all there other choices the colors in taht drive the wall color , the drapes and even the rug . If the rug is a must then you use it to drive the rest .

They might be a little heavy for the feel you’re going for…also, I always hang my curtains as high as possible, it really helps elevate the space! It is looking beautiful btw! I’m attaching a very dated pic of my living room curtains as an example!

Example (it’s very dated but you get the idea!)

Thanks for the feedback, Patricia. I am starting fresh with no furniture or linens yet, but would imagine I will go with a white type of bedding. I do like the coloring in the rug and would like to keep it and can use it to base future choices on. The curtains are returnable, so I'm not wetted to them. I just moved in so none of the hardware has been changed. This is just what is currently there from the prior owner.

I've always had dark furniture so this is the first time I'm trying anything light colored. I wasn't 100% on the style of the night stands or dresser but was looking for something a little more modern and thought they would work okay.

Thank you for sharing the photo and your feedback, Carla. The living room doesn't look dated at all! It's beautiful. I am starting to wonder if it would be better for me to hire someone to come in and evaluate the rooms and what would work best than trying to do it on my own. It's been a lot of decision making and second guessing and I'm not getting the look and feel I want on my own quite yet. Appreciate your sharing.

I'm not a fan of grommet curtains except for my shower. I think you will find that a more tailored look with a pleat more harmonious with your room. If ease of opening is the reason you chose grommets, you can use rings with a pleated curtain.

Thanks P Banos. I looked them up and like the look of pleated curtains as well. What color would you choose? And do you think pleated curtains can be a bit casual? I don't know what style the rug is., but the furniture is from west elm so I guess it's midcenturyesque.

The curtains feel too dark and heavy for the look you want. I would return them.

How much light do you want to filter out?

Would you mind sharing pics again if you decide to take them down? I am just thinking that with all the windows it wouldn't look good with something simple like up down blinds or roman blinds.

I also love the idea of a soft blue on the walls, but I don't know if you like blue. Something like this or even a shade lighter.

Hi Jennifer, the photos are up so hopefully you can still see them. I love the look of the bedroom you provided. I did want to go with neutral paint throughout so I went with a light beige. The bed color is a navy and the furniture is white with yellow/gold accents. I would consider roman shades for sure. I do need some privacy at night but otherwise all for letting the light in. What you can't see in these photos is opposite the wall with the nightstands is a separate nook that has 3 more large floor to ceiling windows, so lots of natural light can come in.

I see photos with the curtains, not without. Was wanting to see the bare windows to see how much dressing they require. Simple, less is better would be my approach if the windows are nice. They look like they don't need to be hidden.

I'd stay with a simple lightly textured white/off white curtain. Slimmer rods that work with whatever metals are in the room would be nicer than those wide white ones. You can buy pre-made curtains in a too-long length and then measure them for hemming to the perfect length. I like to hang the rods above and outside the windows if possible. What's the situation with the two windows on the left side of your photo? A picture without the brown drapes would be helpful.

Sorry for the delay! I appreciate that feedback. I just uploaded the photos without any curtains and also included the additional look so you could see the full scope of the room and windows I need to provide covering for. The prior owners left all of their hardware on the walls so I've just been using them as is in order to have something covering the windows. It's not my style and I should have mentioned that earlier. Anyway, I was doing a little research online and wondered if something like a roller shade and curtains on each side could also work. Or maybe roman shades? I just want it to be simple with a clean look if I can manage that.

Seeing the two windows proximity to the edges, I’d use cream/off white blinds. To create a bit more warmth/interest, suggest linen drapery on the set of windows and if you would like a more of layered look, add blinds.

Thank you P Banos & Maureen. Appreciate the feedback. I like both of your suggestions. The valance and roller shades in a light neutral color could be a nice clean easy look that could work out great! It's hard to see these options sometimes so appreciate the suggestions!
