LInen IMO but why that TV in front of those nice windows . Maybe a pic or two of the whole space so we can see colors in the rug and the furniture .

I would not want to cover any of the beautiful wood work with any type of curtains, plus it is a very tight space with the angles and closeness of window frames. Explore sheer Roman shades or cellular blinds that fit inside the window frams if you want to soften the look. Would love to see what other options there are for TV placement in the room to take advantage of the beautiful window cove. Maybe a spot where you would not look at TV with bright light behind it.

Having lived in historic homes with beautiful window frames, I've always gone with interior mount shades. They make some that are really beautiful and would be a huge improvement over what you have there now. Plus, curtains would clutter this nook that already has so much going on in it.

I too am curious if there is a better layout for your room. You'd be surprised what people on here come up with that you may have overlooked.

I also wonder if there isn't a better location for the TV. We're not seeing the best view of the conditions, but I have my doubts that the wood surround on the fireplace might not be original. It seems overly detailed, and the columns might have been added later.
