Help facelift this dated kitchen

Appreciate any ideas or suggestions to facelift the kitchen. (Includes room pics to give you a sense of the space).

Plan is to make that 2 level countertop to Maybe where the kitchen desk is, was thinking of something like this. But without the wall on the left of it. It won’t be framed in like in the photo 1 level. Change out countertop for white with gold veining quartz and take out the sink in the island so the stone is more visible. Sand and paint the cabinets white including pantry door and fridge panels (not a fan of the brown - it closes up the space).

Open to other suggestions. We don’t use the kitchen desk area and were thinking of taking down those cabinets and doing a nook - something like the last pic uploaded.

Regarding your cabinetry, I would consider talking to a contractor about refacing. Refacing your cabinets will consist of replacing your cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The exterior cabinet sides are covered with new panels and the front faces are covered in a pre-finished veneer.

If you decide to paint the cabinets, I would research the painter to ensure they have experience painting cabinetry. Without the right prep and the correct coating your cabinets could become a mess with flaking and chipping paint.

Yes, completely agree. I should have said refacing, not just repainting. They are going to sand it down, and then repaint with a final coating

Don't remove the desk (you may sell and buyer may want it); repurpose it.

Paint cabinets the same as the living room walls, in a gloss finish.

This is an interesting thought thanks! Instead of going white you would paint the grey/darker color on the walls in the entire kitchen?

Sometimes people put beverage refrigerators in the desk niche. But if you don't need or want one, no need to spend money on it. It's just a suggestion. Your floor looks pretty neutral which is nice for you. Just pay attention to how the color you paint the cabinets looks next to it, and the countertop as well. The refacing that Martin and Calloway is referring to means removing and replacing the door and drawer fronts so you have a different door style. That would update the kitchen more than just paint. However, it is considerably more expensive than painting as the fronts are the most expensive part of a cabinet. But I can tell you the previous owners of our house did that, and we didn't realize it until we moved in and found an extra piece of veneer in the basement. So it can be attractive when done that way. Are the painters going to take the doors off and spray them offsite? You get better results that way. Have them do one door as a sample so you can verify the color and finish quality before they do all of them.

They will not be resurfacing but will be repainting and taking the doors off and doing it offsite.

Great, if they are taking the doors offsite they'll likely be spraying with a durable coating. What color are you going to?

You might consider updating the flooring and backsplash in the entire space and you can always make the desk area into a home bar or coffee bar area.
