Needs more sanding a lot more sanding. You can chemically strip it also. I would keep it simple and just do the same finish as the white oak floors. A runner will cover up the difference in look.

When I first saw this post I thought maybe they needed to find another floor company. I had a mix of red and white oak and then in one area of my laundry only red oak. However my floor guys managed to create a seamless look. You could not tell the difference after it was sanded and stained.

@LCPazanin Is he afraid to sand because the wood is compromised? Deep gouges or maybe it looks too thin? Its hard to tell by the photo.

Thank you both! He said if he sanded anymore it may get uneven. We only had the stairs sanded and stained one other time. He might think it’s too thin. We are having someone else do the flooring so maybe we ask the floor guy to take a look
