Is This a Sandbox Tree?

Hi all, new here
I bought this house and I believe this is a sandbox tree, the trunk does not look as spiky as some I have seen. My gardener told me to hide the seed pod away as it was going to explode, sure enough after around four days in the sun it did - I was out at the time though.
I quite like it now, can anyone help me identify it and give me any precautions/tips on its care?
