Markay, sorry to hear about BS problem. This is my third year with Beverly and she has not had this issue. Quite clean for me although we are in BS zone.

I wasn’t clear - I was looking for photos of foliage now, demonstrating blackspot.

Your report surprised me, as it is still April, even though you are south of me and now zone 8A.

We’ve had a very wet spring here, but Beverly seems to be having a worse time of it than others. I’ll try to remember to take a picture of the foliage tomorrow.

I didn't realize that Beverly could look that stunning! I can see why you're discouraged...you want a rose that's that beautiful to do really well. I hope she improves for you.

Of course I also found that she is NOT my worst rose right now. Deelish typically has issues, but I’ve left her be because I love her scent so much. I took out my Dark Desire and thought the improved air circulation would help, but…

If you're not going to spray it to suppress disease, then you can be sure it's only going to get worse. I'd replace it if I were you

I agree Sandy. It’s just disappointing because I’ve had really good performance from many of my other Kordes roses. Lots of blackspot pressure here though.

Where is MD are you? im in St. Marys county and almost ALL of my roses already have blackspot or rust…. im thinking that the two weeks of rain we had a couple weeks ago has just been rough conditions

How would you describe Bevery's fragrance? I'm trying to think of other roses in the similar pink range you could try.

Hi @SophiatheReader, I am at the Southern end of Anne Arundle near the Calvert county line. I think a lot of it is the wet weather, but a couple of my notoriously spotty roses look good pretty good! Maybe it’s a different strain or something.

Librarian Gardener, Beverly gasn’t started blooming yet this year and I can’t remember her fragrance well enough to describe it. I received Celestial Night and Raspberry Cupcake from High country Gardens this spring and they are in pots for now, but one of them might get Beverly’s spot in the garden come fall.

Those sound like good color replacement options. I'm sorry Beverly isn't as healthy as you'd like

I have had to remove quite a few roses here. Markay MD-Zone 7A (8A on new map) ..I hope it gets better... If not best wishes your replacement does well! I will scare Beverly into performing better for you... lol

My Kordes roses do not have a problem with Black Spot but do get Downy Mildew in wet/cold weather . They also get small spots called Cercospora during summer sometimes . They do not defoliate and keep blooming through . I have to spray biweekly all year except winter to get clean foliage . As my roses gets older , they are more disease resistant .

With some spraying in the Spring mine does well. This is her second season in a pot not too wide, and she was covered in straight, sturdy blooms - about 30, which is quite something for a hybrid tea in a pot smaller than ideal. Her vase life is also better compared to pretty much all others I have except Ring of Fire.

My Beverly always opened pancake flat with jagged edges. She did not break my heart, but she hurt my eyes to look at her. She’s long gone.

You evidently have very intense black spot pressure as I do also. In overhauling my roses to the most black spot resistant ones I can possibly grow, Beverley got the boot early on. I cannot remember the degree of intensity, but Beverly was a poor winter survivor here, so out she came, or should I say they because I had multiple Beverlys.

Not all Kordes roses have black spot resistance, only the ones that are trialed in the ADR test plots throughout Germany, and pass mustard. If they do, they are awarded the ADR designation. Look for it before you select any rose to include in your garden.

The ADR list is a good guide, but Deelish is on that list and it’s definitely not resistant in my garden!

sometimes you just have to try them in your own garden to really know!

In any case, it is nice to have my experience with Beverly validated.

Chances are you have different strains. My Deelish is the top rose in the garden, tall, graceful, perfectly clean and has a lovely grapefruit scent. Maybe you could move it. My Wedding Bells were completely defoliated because of blackspot in the previous spot, although it is known to be very disease resistant. I have never seen any disease on WB since moving it to another location. Sometimes the microclimate is also the cause.

Markay - those rose leaves are a BS mess. Yikes! Maybe different roses (either this year or next) would be better. But, like you said...you love Deelish's fragrance.

@Markay MD-Zone 7B I bought a Respberry Cupcake in our Lowes yesterday . the fragrance blows me away. It has cool pink/ lilac color. Being a Kordes it should be disease resistant. But if Beverly fails you, then that is not a garanttee. I wish you could find a good replacement.

I can think of some Kordes roses with superior BS resistance which don’t hold ADR designation. Some high-performing Kordes roses have never been trialed in ADR in Deutschland.

And the confusion with Grey Poupon has previously been discussed, here, on more than one occasion.

The scent of some early season lillies evokes memories of my childhood experience with caterpillars.

For more "devil advocacy," here she is this Spring, doing splendidly, being a classic beauty. But I did spray.

I will have to check my records and see if my Deelish is own root. If not, I might try it on multiflora in a different spot. everything grows better on multiflora here.

Still a couple of yellow leaves, but new foliage is looking good and her blooms are huge.

Markay - your Beverly is looking really good!

Today seemed like a good day to take a photo of 'Beverly' this year. I had new growth all the way to the tips of the canes which is very unusual for me. And 'Beverly' grows more vertically for me the past two years. I think it wants to be a climber. I left it alone in April but then it started drooping over, so I put a red tomato cage over it. Just in time! If I had waited, I never would have gotten it over it. It's very vigorous and branching with buds all over it. I don't normally see an open rose until June 1st. Julia Child already has 4 blooms opening today. But Beverly looks like she is not ready yet. The foliage looks very clean.

I try to remove the guard petals on the bud. This helps with the formation of prettier blooms on some rose bushes.

I was going to update with another photo as most of the buds are open and it should be finishing with the first flush of bloom soon, but if other parts of the country struggle more than I do with blackspot, then my success with the rose, doesn't help them at all. I just wanted those who are in parts of the country where blackspot is not as big of an issue to know Beverly is pretty good in that department. Definitely worth growing. I will update a photo if I see any blackspot on the rose.

While pruning roses yesterday, I noticed Bevely was listing to one side so I dug it up and found most of the roots had been eaten off so Beverly is no longer in my garden.

Problem solved lol. I had Beverly years ago and I loved the color of her blooms. She was loaded with nlooms when a wind storm split her right down the middle and that was the end of my Beverly. I really love the color of my Buxom Beauty. Too new to comment on Black spot
