Staining Fiberglass Door

We ordered TEAK colored fiberglass doors (that look like wood)from Krosswood Doors for our home reno. It arrived not teak colored at all, instead a reddish brown color. After many phone calls back and forth to the company they refunded us a portion of the door because they admitted the teak color was coming out shades darker than on their website (and promised to update the website as to not disappoint future shoppers).

We were going for a modern farmhouse look for our home reno so this has been upsetting. Any advice on how we can get it to a lighter shade of natural light brown? Our contractor suggested sanding and using lighter brown gel stain but couldn’t guarantee it would work. He is advising us to paint it black. I’m not opposed to black but really wanted a light wood door so wanted to exhaust all options before settling for black. Any advice would be much appreciated!
