What hood pairs with GE Slate appliances?

So my husband and I are about to start a big kitchen renovation, with Ikea Adel white cabinets and leathered Black Pearl granite countertops. We really think the new GE Slate appliance color would look great in our clean, transitional style...but what hood do we use over the stove? Would stainless be to brash? Or should I be looking at something white? I don't see nothing from GE that matches.

We want to make the stove a bit of a focal point, as the doorway across from it sort of frames it when you're in the dining room, but we don't have it in our budget to spend a fortune.

What about a copper hood? They come in light, medium and dark finishes. No matching required. We're doing a ge cafe series double oven with gas range stainless steel and s copper hood in our remodel. Cabinets are antique white.
Copper + stainless steel? It's a possibility, depending on the exact color & texture of the hood. There was a pretty in-depth post on Houzz not too long ago, talking about matching different metals. If we find it, we'll post the link.

bmitra, did you find a solution? I just ordered the slate range and had already gotten my stainless hood for total kitchen remodel. It just hit me today the 2 might not look right. What did you do?

Here's a picture of my stove and the black Broan range hood. I think it worked out perfectly.

There's been some chatter I've come across that the slate stainless is hard to match with other stainless appliances. I usually bury my hood in a cabinet enclosure but don't know if this will match your idea of a transitional kitchen. I guess I'd look at either white or black to match your cabinets or countertops but personally am not a big fan of enameled range hoods. Check out Vent-a-Hood units - very quiet hoods and easy to clean. Have never seen one that is enameled though.

I have this range and I just got an AH mazing deal on the OTR microwave. For a hood you could go black because there is a lot of black on the stove top or go stainless to match the knobs and the handle. I LOVE this color and I think it is a great alternative to stainless and something unique that not everyone has....and no fingerprints!
GE also does not make a standard microwave in slate or wall ovens (although salesperson thinks there will be wall ovens this fall) so the salesperson recommended black. I don't think I would go black with a range hood thought. It would stick out way too much with your white cabinets.

I didn't read the previous comments, but Vent a Hood has a Gunsmoke finish which might be a close match!

njshaefer78, I just checked them out, thanks for the info.
It really does. I love your back splash!! I am putting in a black gas cook top so the stainless hood might be great.
Thanks so much Angie. My project took 5 months with me doing as much as I possibly could (tile included), it was very nice to read your comment.

Go with stainless. There is just enough stainless on the range to tie the two together nicely.
I bought a black hood over the slate oven and it looks very nice.
I'm getting these appliances. But I'm going with stainless induction cooktop and stainless Broan vent hood. I ordered everything, but the wall ovens because they won't be available until August. I wish the cooktop and hood were available in slate.
I'm considering these appliances too, but it doesn't look like the make a microwave to fit in a cabinet, only an over-the-range. Is there actually a matching one? Our microwave is set in our cabinets.

GE is expanding the Slate line. They started with four pieces in 2012 and it should be up to around 50 pieces by the end of the year. They will have a wall oven and cooktop in the slate color by the third quarter of this year.

I am getting new GE Appliances in August which will include the slate range hood and the slate OTC microwave. Love the variation of color that these appliances have. So glad they are expanding their line due to the popularity!

Where did you purchase the slate range hood?
You will have to check with GE or your local appliance/hardware store. The company is about to come out with more slate options for the GE appliances. I got this information from our local hometown appliance store. We are building and won't be ready to order until September or so. The appliance store had told me they were coming out with these options sometime in August. Hope that helps.

The slate range hood is not available.

I love the slate finish! I renovated my kitchen last year and installed a GE fridge in slate and paired it with a black double oven, black induction stove top, and black dishwasher (which we had already and didn't want to replace). The fridge is the only slate appliance in the room, but we integrated the color into the space through our choice of a Bianco Antico granite counter top and by painting one wall to match the fridge: Benjamin Moore's Woodcliff Lake.

I recommend that you conceal the hood within a cabinet of the same material as the IKEA cabinets - too many color and material changes tend to defeat the seamless look that you are pursuing.

It sounds like GE is coming out with the slate range hood in Late Jan early February. We have purchased these appliances a few months ago and will be installing them in December. They seem to be very slow getting the range hood out for some reason

There is NOTHING worse in design that a near miss in color match - either miss it by a mile or match it exactly. I still believe that if you place a floor to ceiling dark element in the middle of the room to be seen immediately from the doorway that you will visually cut off the eye travel left to right (we read that way) and half the rooms size in so doing.

Careful w the ge I was at a summer home equipped w the high end ge and the handles were worn and there were dents in the stainless I know you are looking at another finish but i think the quality will be the same. We too are looking at new appliances big money big decisions check out the dishwasher doors and see if they wobble the only one that doesn't is the LG. My appliance repairman says he won't work on LG but I love my washer and dryer from them. He also said BUY the warranty you'll need it because they are all junk. Disheartening I know but buyer beware there is no pride in what is being sold good luck

The slate finish series has stainless steel handles and work perfect with a stainless steel hood in a matte finish . That's what I'm doing in my kitchen

VentaHood a brand out of Texas makes hoods that will match the Slate color perfectly. Not the cheapest hoods but definitely the most effective and quietest hoods I have ever owned.

Andrea, Thanks so much for the tip of Ben Moore Paint Woodcliff Lake. I have been wanting to find a color to paint my vintage wood table top which has already been painted but over time has chipped here and there. I'll leave the legs as they are (milk paint) and paint the top with Woodcliff Lake which will pair really well with my new GE slate appliances. Thanks again! BTW......how did you find this color????? :)

I hope the paint color worked out for your table top! I found this color just by taping paint chips to the slate fridge, under natural light, until I found a good match...I have some training in color theory. The key is to have some separation between the pieces, so any discrepancies in color or surface texture go unnoticed. Instead, your eye darts from one object to the next, finding harmony in the color similarities.

After my appliances were installed, I wondered if painting my table top in the woodcliff lake may be adding just one too many dark pieces to my room. I still love the color so I think I may go lighter on my dinning table top and paint some accent tray tables in the woodcliff lake color. I am experimenting with painting my range hood and may give the Woodcliff Lake a try as a base then adding metallic paint with a reactive spray. I plan to do this in the next 2 weeks or so. Thanks again. I am amazed how you found this color.

Rust-oleum has a has an Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint that is a perfect match with the plastic trim on this stove. I have a cheap white hood and I just painted it and reinstalled it. It is perfect!

I went with Broan, in the Stainless and it matched perfectly. It matches the handle and the knobs on the stove to perfection.

I purchased the slate color appliances. Got great deals at Sears Outlet. I purchased the slide in stove and replaced my hood with an over the range microwave in slate so I did not have to worry about matching the hood.

I agree with those recommending the stainless. There is stainless on the appliances, so they tie in. If you go with brushed nickel hardware on cabinets, they match also.

I went with the awesome slate GE double oven gas range, I teamed it with a brushed nickel XO rounded look that matched with all the stainless hardware on the slate appliances.

We are getting a cheap stainless hood. They are expanding their GE slate line, and we will replace it with slate when it comes out. It was showcased in February, and should be out in stainless by the end of 2016.

Bmitra- Any updates on finished product and your decision on hood?

Ienvision - how did painting the etainless hood to match the slate work out?? can you recommend how to do it??

Funny you should ask. I still do not have a range hood yet. I keep saying tomorrow I'm going to pick up a stainless hood. I bought the paint and then wasn't sure if I wanted to paint it after all. I kind of was waiting to see if GE would come out with slate then I decided I didn't want slate and went to Home Depot to buy stainless and they were out of my size hood in stainless. Then I got really busy and did nothing. However, I have to say I am not as happy with my GE Slate Appliances as I hoped to be. My GE Slate Dishwasher is leaking all over my floor and after the second repair person came out I now have to wait more than 10 days for a part to repair it and hopefully that is the problem. My GE Slate Range Stove Top is almost impossible to clean. I can't ever seem to completely remove everything that sticks to it. My GE Slate Refrigerator makes all kinds of strange annoying loud noises. They do look nice though. :)

I can't tell when this post was written but GE now does make a Slate range hood.

why not a power pack with an arched piece of wood in front, and cabinets above?

GE was bought out by the Chinese Company Haier in February. We have been told by Menards that they can no longer get slate appliances from GE. We hope we can get them in the fall when our builder will be ready for them. I was also hoping to get the new slate hood then. But now we may not be getting any slate appliances.

I used a stainless hood with my slate stove. It matches the handle and knobs on the stove.
home depot currently sells several slate range hood models. Search slate range hood in the search box and they will all pop up. I replaced all our appliances 2 years ago in Slate and I love them. we just bought a new house and it has brand new stainless appliances...albeit the lowest end models...and within 4 hours the fridge was covered in fingerprints. I eileen be moving the fridge to the garage and selling the rest and replacing with Slate.

Standard Slate range hoods will be available at Home Depot late September.

I know I'm late to this conversation but some commenters above suggested Vent-A-Hood and their gunsmoke finish. Be aware the Vent-A-Hood's gunsmoke finish is not even close to matching the GE slate finish.

Also, I made the mistake of ordering a Vent-A-Hood range hood without seeing the gunsmoke finish (couldn't find a retailer that had a sample in their showroom) and without checking Vent-A-Hood's return policy. When I received the hood, the finish looked horrible, (looked like it was painted with a roller, not the "smooth power coat finish" that the website claimed), it did not match the GE slate and now Vent-A-Hood wants a 50% restocking fee to take it back. (That's not a typo. 50% restocking fee.)

Basically, if you are considering Vent-A-Hood, their brushed stainless is fine but do not consider one of their powder coat finishes. The powder coat finish is not well done and makes the vent hood look very cheap.
