Of course, there will be the issue of dye lots etc - but maybe not all hope is lost. I think if you could find the white tile that is shown with the patterned - so that the shape and size match, that would make a nicer transition than the size you are showing in your dry fit.

It is worth making a phone call to see if it would work for you and what they can suggest that would work with it if the colour matching won't work.

But, if that doesn't work.....I think I'd make a long rectangle with the patterned tile and use the white around the border. The L shape you are showing just isn't quite right. You want it to look planned (even if it isn't!) and not patchworked.

I think the photo below would be better suited so it truly looks like a patterned rug.

Take your tiles to a proper tile store - one that only sells tile and talk to people there. There are usually people on staff who are brilliant at helping you match colours, textures, shapes and sizes. Tap into their expertise to make this room lovely.

@Mvcanda's pics show what was in my head. I would not arrange them in an L. Make a rectangle instead. Center it on the window but slightly wider than the window. Begin it away from the window wall so there is a white border on all sides. Center it on the length of the room so the amount of what between the window wall and the green is the same amount of white between the far end of the room wall and the green.

Totally agree that a white tile the same size as the green tiles will make it look so much better and more intentional. With the small white tile you currently have down it looks like you are trying to fill in the space from a mistake.

The L looks forced. A rectangle ‘rug’ would be better. Why not just tile the window wall instead?

I don't think it's going to look good. 22" it's is narrow looking "rug ". It's like placing a row of 24×24" tile through a room. Try to use those for something else or keep some extra in case some tiles need to be replaced in the future in your own house. You could also do some pattern combining with other tile.

I think a rectangle of the beautiful green tiles with plain long white tiles as the “border” will look better than small tiles. The green ones need to be smaller than the “framing” ones. Find bigger white ones.

I would look into the source from mvcanada! Maybe they have your tiles….

Thanks, all! I’ve searched for long white tilee but everything I’ve found is too cream/off-white. The white lines in this aqua tile are a bright white that almost looks silver and this particular 2-inch hex mosaic is a perfect match. Is it better to go with cream and not have a great color match for the sake of better shaped tiles?? And I do like the recommendation of taking questions to a tile store. Thx.

And my tiles are made specifically for Floor and Decor. Company is called Adessi. This design and color was discontinued last year.

Adessi does make a plain white in the same size but it is Cream/off-white rather than the brighter white/silver in the aqua tiles.

Also: The reason for the “L” rather than the rectangle is because the door from garage is not centered on the window so when you walk into the laundry room, the “rug” would be centered on window but end at an odd spot on the garage door. Making an “L” de-emphasizes the wonkiness of garage door placement. See room layout (Pic1) for clarification.

I'd pick a completely different tile (with enough in stock) for mom's bathroom - there's a lot of turquoise tile out there. Sell what you have on FB Marketplace or donate it to Habitat.

The L shape with the green tile doesn't look good with the white hex-looks exactly like you ran out of tile sadly. I'd sell the green tile and start over with something else. Isn't this the house with the kitchen tile "rug" around the island? I definitely wouldn't replicate that flooring accent twice in one house.

Do the window wall in the hexes, and a plain square white tile with them scribed in, if there isn't enough, and the tiler has the skill. Fade them into the floor a bit maybe, but that's going to depend on what you pick for the floor tile.

Yikes, this is the house with the tile "rug" on the kitchen floor. The L just looks terrible no matter the reason for it. This is getting too crazy. Your houses are across the street from each other. I think be very glad that you have this tile in one of your homes and it looks perfect. You need to move on and get a different look for Mom's laundry room.

The inspo pic looks great. The ran out of tile and picked up something else look is not good at all. The aqua tile would probably look better on the wall.

Also consider. If your laundry room floor ever gets damaged, you know those are the only tiles you have to hope for repair. If you use them all in your moms place, you won't have the tile for a repair option in your house. It might sound odd to save them just in case... but I have seen a bunch of threads of "help, my tile is damaged and I can't find a matching replacement" over the years. Sometimes changing footprints in the room and wishing they had tile to fill the change happens too.

If you truly love that style of tile...I see similar online at Wayfair and Home Depot - but different size from what you have. Sell what you've got and start fresh with a similar tile.

You don't have enough tile. Don't add yet another tile 'rug'. Move on.

The L pattern looks "make do". Pick something new for the whole floor.

I agree with everyone else - keep the extra tile in case you have to make repairs at your house.

The L would require a lot of cuts which you don’t want to deal with when there are no extra tiles. Buy new tiles for your mom’s house.

No patchwork floor. Buy new tile to do the job properly.

Why not just go to the website listed above an order a full room of the tile? It looks like it is the same tile. The color may be slightly different . Then save that for your home in case you need replacements.

That tile is certainly cool but it’s more green and this is more blue/aqua tone. I’ll keep looking for similar.

I see similar in lots of colours - I think you won't have trouble finding a similar design in some nice colours. Lowes, Home Depot, Wayfair, Saltillo has a few colours including plain versions of the same tile.

Michelle - I would not be so dismissive of the tiles that mvcanada linked in her comment.

Many tiles are manufactured by one company - and then sold by several different retailers. I know that the faux zellige Adessi tiles were purchased by a few people on Houzz when they couldn’t find Bedrosian Cloe White tiles - and photos were posted of the Cloe tiles and the Adessi tiles - and the people who looked at both could NOT tell the difference (same exact size - nominal 2.5 x 8 with actual size of 2.55 x 7.57). Both tiles were stamped on the back ”Made in Spain.”

I was told that Adessi is just one of F&D’s own brands by someone who called F&D (they also sell some of the exact same tiles that are sold by MSI/Ivy Hill/etc. - but they are branded under a different name unique to F&D).

You will have to see how the dye lots work - but if you mixed the tiles together, you may be able to use them.

How many tiles are you short?

Can you change up your pattern and do some other color mixed in?

Great idea but I need to find a tile that works in the design. Adessi makes an off-white hex the same size but the white in the aqua tile is much brighter and almost a silver. They also make a black?? My countertops will be white, walls white, cabinetry high gloss white (washer/dryer is graphite) so maybe popping in black into the design could possibly work and not make it feel too dark? I’ll grab some this week from F&D and test it out. Thx!

Blueberry's sketch looks great, but will it compensate enough for the number of tiles you are missing? Seems like you'd still be cutting it close and then you and your mom won't have any left for replacement in case of breakage.

Regardless of the color or pattern, you've found a great size and shape for the room.

Please always keep in mind that what you see on a computer screen or even worse, the phone screen, are NEVER the true color. You must always order a sample.

Update! So I found out that F&D actually has some more of this exact tile at a few locations but very out of state for us. And they do NOT ship this one for some reason as site says “For Pickup Only”. We live in NJ and closest locations to us that have it are in Capital Heights, MD (though 30 pieces might not be enough??) and Dorchester, MA (they have plenty). These are 3+ and 5+ hours away from our home. Anyone out there know why these items might not be eligible for shipping? And how I might be able to get them here without making the drive ourselves? Other farther locations were in Sacramento, CA, Fresno, CA, West San Antonio, TX, Maple Grove, MN and Orlando, FL. Please advise. Thx!

So make a day of it, drive three hours, pick up the tile, have lunch, and drive three hours home. Take a few tile with you to verify the match is exact please.

They can not/will not ship from a brick and mortar retail store warehouse. Get in the car.......they will load it into the vehicle.

When you order tile online? It does not come from a store, it comes from the wholesaler/distributor, or manufacturer on pallets.

You will do TWO days of driving, to two locales and you may still have a mismatch in dye lot at one or the other.

Start over from the earlier "bargain"

You might have to ask them why they aren't shipping the tile. Might be since it's sort of a closeout, might be something else. But yes, take a tile or two with you, write down the lot number(s) from the boxes if you still have the boxes. And then take a day trip.

Or find something else that mom wants in her laundry room.

Businesses are set up to ship LTL, to a dock, not white glove into a home. Shipping heavy pallets on LTL freight without a liftgate, only to show up at a narrow street or cove residence where no one is there to hand unload a 53' tractor trailor is a big PIA extra charge, and then it just goes back to the shipper if there isn't a dock or some burly people hanging out ready for an LTL delivery to show up in a 2 day window from 8-5. Paying the extra $100+ for the liftgate means it's still no delivery appointment, left at the end of the driveway, and you tote it into the garage or house. And that is if they feel like palletizing all the open boxes, and charging $350 for freight. Most stores don't deal with anything but incoming pallets that they break down, and wouldn't know how to wrap a pallet to not shift and break if their life depended on it.

Fly NJ to Logan, rent a car, get the tile, drive home.

Likely will involve less time overall than who knows how many shopping trips to find a substitute. Not to mention waiting for it to arrive and holding up the project. Bird in hand sorta' thing.

How badly do you want those tiles?

If your heart is set on them, figure out how many tiles you are currently short, double that number, pick the store that has an adequate number, call them to confirm they have the tile (might even be able to have them check the dye lot) ... then drive. As a long shot, you could ask if they'd ship while you have them on the phone, but if you're shipping, you should probably triple rather than double in case of breakage.

If that is too much trouble, then your heart isn't as set as you think it is and you should find another tile ... or consider changing patterns depending on how short you are.

I mean, I hate driving in Dorchester, so I'd probably find a different tile solution, but that's me, and I haven't fallen in love with your tile. I've driven hours to adopt a guinea pig ... multiple times (okay, one was only hours because of traffic and construction ... not sure what possessed me to go get her at a time when I'd have to drive through Boston at anytime near 5pm to get home ...) Moral: figure out how important this is to you.

Your drive time will be considerably less than what you’ve devoted to a different solution. If it must be THIS tile, I’d take some along to check color match and if it doesn’t match, just buy a whole room’s worth and have what you wanted all along.

UPDATE: Exciting Ending! So the Dorchester store will ship to the house. Tile price is reasonable do even with the $285 shipping, it’s well worth ending the search and crazy efforts toward workarounds. And saving on all that gas :). I bought a bunch of extra and ensured all from the same dye lot. It should arrive within 7 days and my contractor seemed ok with that. In the end, I learned that I needed to ask a rep at the store to enter the SKU number because their systems list all stores in the country that have any in stock. When you check online, their system only tells you about availability (or lack thereof) in the specific state you enter. So you must tediously enter every individual state to check inventory nation-wide. Furthermore, “Store Pickup” is the only listed option online as you must contact the specific store directly (getting hold of a human is hard) or customer service to order with shipping. Thank you all so much for all your helpful advice!!
