How about painting the walls at blue-grey color?

paint the island only. a color would be nice......then find a patterned backsplash. Id install a couple pendants and get new stools too. Leaving the gray cabinetry on the walls would work as they come off as a neutral along w the basic counters. Infuse some color / whatever your personality dictates.....at the island.

I’d concentrate on accessories. Your colors in the kitchen look fine, but it’s all very neutral. Rugs, lamps, artwork, and greenery would add color and coziness.

I would prefer the look of all white cabinets, but the gray is okay. What I really don’t like is the current look of the side of the island - half gray and half white. Please don’t paint that pantry door black, though! Looks like your refrigerator is already black. That’s enough black. Don’t know where the bathroom door is, but don’t paint that black either. This is a small kitchen and living space, and keeping the doors white helps expand the space visually. With white or gray cabinets, and black counters, I’d stay neutral on a backsplash - maybe use a gray and white backsplash - marble subway, small herringbone, or some other small scale pattern. I would consider just using some nice drapes on either side of your sliding glass door. - that would give your living room a more finished look. Or do you have the current door covering because too much sunlight comes in? You could still have drapes with the current window covering - they could even be stationary drapery panels. You have gray cabinets, a dark blue sofa, a rust pillow, beige dining seats - there’s no coherent color scheme going on. An area rug that pulls in the blue, beige, gray, etc. could pull it all together, as would some pillows on the sofa pulling in the rug/drapery colors.

It is very expensive to have a good professional cabinet painting job done. And if you DIY it or get a cheap paint job they will start chipping and look bad quickly. I quite like your cabinet color anyway. I would only paint the grey side panel of the island white to match the other half of your island. I think it would open up the space to have the look of an all white island.

Your backsplash looks great, your counters are nice. The size and shape of your hardware is nice but I agree that polished chrome hardware would bring some lightness to the kitchen.

In a small, open space cohesion is great and you are pretty much there. I think you have a neutrals and navy color scheme. I'd emphasize the rust a bit more to punctuate it and take away some of the black. You could also really use a rug in your living area.

Your circular mirror is great, and I would aim for more of that vibe in a rug and in your dining room chairs and stools. They read too heavy to me. Maybe your stools could be something with more texture and less heft. Same with your dining room chairs. I think the dark wood and black iron are bringing things down a bit.

No black doors. I'd take the word art off of your pantry door. Can you declutter your counters a bit? I'd put a nice circular lighter colored woven tray on your island to correlate to the mirror.

Not loving your slider panels either. Drapes hung on the sides would look great, but I suspect you are looking for more light control, yes?

Your plants are nice by the TV but too symmetrical. I'd put both in the corner to the right of the TV, but one higher than the other, have them angled, not side by side.

Do you ever use the swing chair? It doesn't add much to the space.
