Entertainment and Fireplace Design Question

I do not like how busy this wall is want to simplify it. I do not use the TV or the fireplace as this is a room that is very visible but rarely used. I need suggestions, perhaps doors to cover fireplace ( I really dislike it), and what to do on the side with the TV. Should I add book shelves where TV is now or add doors to close it off? Also not sure what to do about area above TV. I don't think the proportions are correct for the cabinets above TV. The fan will be removed. Thank you.

Simplify that bad dream that has been imposed on the wall. I'd keep the fireplace because of the value it adds to the home.

BTW the manilla folder colored sofa and aqua walls are not working so I changed them to olive

Minimize that overly details white millwork

The TV is easiest to get rid of. Cheapest too. The mirror over the fireplace is yet another shape adding to the visual clutter. I agree the cabinetry around the TV is an issue. I wonder if you can turn that area into a dry bar?

Echoing Kendra’s‘s comments, it always comes down to how much do you want to do. Assuming you have another fireplace in your house, you literally could pull most of the trim off the wall and have it re-drywalled or plastered and repainted. By the way, your paint is a really pretty color with the white trim. if you don’t want to go that far, my least favorite thing on that wall is the mirror. I personally would replace it with a piece of artwork with beautiful colors that pick up your paint color.. If you don’t pull out the white cabinets above the TV, then I would also put a coordinating piece of artwork above that. The idea would be to kind of distract from the other things that you don’t like. The first question to figure out though is what do you want to use the space for?

Will suggest that you strip the area down to just wall and start from there. The assemblage you have now is too busy (as you said) and the cabinetry, trim, etc. just don't do anything to enhance your room. If you remove everything down to bare wall that should give you a good point to start from.

Great suggestions, I considered drywall over the fireplace but thought it may not be a good idea for resale. Also, wondered if it presented a safety concern as it is a gas fireplace. Thank you.

Rip it all out except the FP then see what cn be done this is just a mess as is. I do not understand rooms that are not used so maybe a floor plan to scale posted here in jpeg format can help with that . Post her ein a comment and all things dealing with this home now dealt with her ein comments DO NOT start another post

Quite welcome. One more option that occurred to me. I just got rid of the fireplace but left the tv side, the tall flat trim visually making the room taller.
