ID chase of a NOID

A couple of years ago I received a very small hosta from a dear friend and she presented it as something being called 'Spider'. I simply took her word for it but I have since come to realize there is no such variety I can find, the closest is 'Itsy Bitsy Spider' and it's clear that's not what I'm dealing with here. Suggestions welcomed!

This is my Red October. It looks to have some of the same looks and habits. A relative perhaps?

Been thinking and looking……not coming up with anything. could it be a random seedling? If no one can ID this, start looking at the mini list hostas…..tedious task…..

Ladies, thanks for piping up! Debra, I don't think it was a seedling but I cannot be 100% sure. The gal that gave it to me visited a grower she'd met a few times at the local farmer's market and he was going out of growing hostas and she picked up just a slew of plants from him. She passed on quite a few to me and all except this one are as labeled, which is more than I can say for some of the other stuff she's shared with me.

I think Laurie may be on to something with 'Tiny Tears'. It would be nice if people started to take pictures of more than just the overall plant but also flowers, seed pods, as well as petioles. Flowers and petioles can go a long way towards nailing down that ID. There are no pictures on HL of 'Tiny Tears' that show the petioles but the flowers seem to be closest. I'll stick with TT for the time being and will re-visit this at some point in time.

After posting the above I checked National Gardening Association database and looked for 'Tiny Tears' and I'm not sure I'm on the right track. None of the picture they have that show the lower parts of the petioles give no hint of a reddish blush... Back to square 1 I'm afraid.

Oh well....

The American Hosta Society has a Full Classification List they use as a guide for their leaf competitions. Once you have some kind of named hosta it might be, maybe compare to what they have registered as the leaf size?

I too have 'Red October' and I have no reason to believe it's related to what I have here. I rather suspect it has a H. venusta background based on the size of the leaves and plant. The pictures in the HL for venusta show one picture where you can see the petioles have about as much of a blush as what I see on mine. I'll have to do some more digging into the venusta family tree, I guess.
