I have been so busy I have been missing posting since it is usually so late in the week there is no point. Boy I have a lot of cleaning up to do but here goes!

Beyond Glory has become a favorite. It will get better as the season progresses. So many dull days but at least I have had some rain.

arch, beautiful garden! I have the same ferns in my yard…. I am always digging them up and moving them or giving them away! Lol. I love all your yard decor and your birdhouses. Do you have nesting birds in them?

Laurie, I never manage to see “all the cleaning up” you say you need to do……in the third pic, left bottom corner, what hosta is that? Looks like one of my NOIDS. Beyond Glory is a stunning hosta! The colors are so soft and subtle. Not sure I would have room for one that size…… sigh.

Debra that is kikutii 3rd pic bottom left. Yes BG is so subtle early on and then brightens. The buds and flowers are fantastic too. You have added so many over the last couple of years it is no wonder you might not be able to fit it in. I am scheming trying to find room for some 7 footers LOL!

It’s been raining quite a bit here so it’s great not having to water. This morning it was sunny and 70 and now it’s been raining (some hail) all afternoon and even now at 7:30 p.m.

My veggies are planted, lettuce, tomatoes peppers, cucumbers. We love being able to have fresh salads! I need to get going with my annuals, but still have 4 hostas coming.

The bathroom is moving along….but today our contractor/friend decided he didn’t like how some of the tiles lay, so he chipped them out and will relay them. The first coat of paint is on. I decided to go with Benjamin Moore “Pebble Beach.” I had them lighten it so he mixed a 75% mixture of the color and it’s perfect! I thought you would just add white to lighten it, but apparently white makes colors milky. Who knew?

I got my first edition of the Hosta Journal so am excited to take a look at it. It’s well worth the AHS membership fee that’s for sure! Well, you’re all up to date with me. Have a great week!

I was going to plant annuals today..but when I walked by a trio of viburnums I had to walk around the flopping stems..so I grabbed my tools and cut them down..my husband dug out the stumps..I filled 2 holes but before the 3rd it started raining..

this wasn’t a rash decision..I’ve been thinking about it..they’re 15?16? years old and no amount of pruning will fix them..

Late for me again - Been keeping fairly busy out there this week, when it isn't raining.

but yeah, the hostas are liking the rain. I've got all the annuals in that I'm going to do this year, less than normal but less work too. Trying to get pictures taken while I can, between the rain. I have a lot of work to do with paths and re-potting.

Debra it sounds like your remodel is coming along nicely. I am sure you will be happy to shower at home instead of the health club soon.

Ann it is Neptune. I think this is year three for it so I am looking forward to it maturing. You will get everything done but the Viburnums were clearly on the hit list. I hope the rain stops long enough to get the last hole filled.

Laurie..I guessed right!..I’ve loved Neptune since I first saw one..I was on a planting mission for many years..now I find myself removing a few plants..it’s sad to remove a plant you bought and planted years ago..but afterwards it’s good once you decided it’s time to go..

Peren, those are big specimens. How old are you hostas in general? Love that yellow in the middle. I am sucker for brights.

Hello. As Master of Ceremonies, I gave myself that title, I also get to make the rules of which there are none but have fun. No one is ever late. You jump into the conversation when and as often as you wish. I just start up a new one each week. I may change the title.

I have maybe 2 more trips to the unit. I will be happy when that is over. I have been downsizing for 3 years. My son will disagree, but it is not open to discussion.

arcy, Laurie and lindalana beautiful gardens. They look like wonderful places to relax with very plush plants. I hope y'all have watering systems as I am so tired of watering.

I get no rain; I know it will be coming someday and I will have more than I need. Life will be good. I have split up my yard half in morning and the rest at night and it worked out easier for me. My high today is 93. The weather man let me know next week will be cooler with temps in the high 80's or low 90's. oh yea! 92. so much cooler. (and this is the mayor's husband)

A Bromeliad blooming today. This one is mean as it has curved thorns, very sharp, that goes in both directions on each leaf.

Wow! Wow! Wow! What do all of you feed your hostas???? They look so big and healthy…. I have been mixing potting soil with some compost manure when I planted my pots and then with the new ones going in the ground. I hope that gets them off to a good start. Unfortunately, Time in a Bottle has done the same thing it did last year…..started dropping leaves and turning brown. I potted it hoping to avoid a repeat of last year. I guess it just doesn’t like my yard! 😞

debra, I wonder if Time in a Bottle is a difficult one to grow? The HL has just one person's pictures of it.

I’ve have only a few more pots left to get in the ground and four hostas ordered. I really should concentrate on doing maintenance and stay out of the nurseries. But again, there’s that FOMO. I struggle between wanting ALL the plants, to wanting to make a big picture landscape. Maybe I should come to terms knowing that I’m more of a vignette type of gardener. 😊

I’ve got my vegetable starts hardening off outside but nothing in the ground yet.

I did manage to pot up all the annuals I like to line my deck with. Enjoyable!

I also need to work on paths, but I’ll be doing that kind of stuff all summer long.

Lilacs need trimming now that they’re done flowering. I can’t reach the tops, but I’ll get what I can. The mail carrier will be glad when I trim back the one by the mailbox.

I was so proud of myself for recognizing and eliminating a rosette of poison hemlock. Then I looked up the hill at what’s coming down towards my garden from the neighbor’s. A HUGE stand of it! I went through the five stages. Horror, anger, strategizing, sad and overwhelmed, resigned to the fact it’s there, and I have to live with it, if it doesn’t kill me while I’m gardening on that hill. Now the tall grass that was coming down that hill from the neighbor's doesn’t look so bad to me!

Anyone recognize this hosta? It’s an oldie, probably planted 15-20 year ago. I have the name somewhere, but if you recognize it, that will give me a head start to finding it in my old handwritten notes.

The photo actually shows Black Crack along White Rim Road in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I think they are everywhere. Not a place to put a hosta, but beautiful.

So it's raining again in Wisconsin and Illinois, some in Indiana and none for me. But it's been cooler, last night in the 40's what a relief from the 80's a week ago. Absolutely love everyone's huge hostas. I would attach pictures of mine but I have to weed first! What a great bromeliad. I bought 2 last year, a plan green one and a green and white striped one. Nothing fancy but I did manage to keep them growing all winter with a few new "pups" on the plain green and a single pup on the striped one, so maybe that's something I can grow inside when it's cooler. Nurseries here buy the fancy ones and then pot them up with a common fern or another inexpensive plant and then they become very expensive. A local grocery store has one of these combination planters going for $90-- a green and red bromeliad with a large fern that Costco sells for $20. I almost bought it but what will I do with a 4 foot high fern? Have to spray the back yard since the deer were out there last night when I got home.

Debra, my Time in a bottle , got last year, was a bit neglected. It does not look strongest grower for me.

Looking at your pics, here what I would do. Menards sells fine pine bark mulch. I use pro mix otherwise. My recipe for pots is half pro mix and half pine bark, pinch of bone meal and pinch of dehydrated chicken manure which Menards also sells. Create mound in your pot and spread roots like a fan. Make sure bone meal is incorporated well. Sprinkle on top some Osmocote and you good to go.

I grow between 1K to 2K seedlings of veggies for church plant swap. My friend helps and she uses Dr Earth something with equally good results.

I would suggest bulking root system in your plant because it looks like there was drainage problem.

SUMMER BREEZE! That’s it! Thank you, Gary!!! As soon as I read that name I recognized that I had that one years ago. It’s been growing in a lot of shade and surrounded by other plants, so I forgot about it. Now with two trees cut down, one on purpose, one by mistake, it’s in all day sun, and I can see it again. That was helpful. 😊

Paula, oh yeah, Utah does have that black crack in the Canyonlands park. Very eerie. I’m not going near it! I know you need a permit to go there, but I wonder if it’s wide enough that anyone has repelled down inside of it?

lindalana, your hostas are looking good! I have/had a Cheatin Heart, and yours does look like it.

Yes Ann you did get it right! Sometimes we just have to edit and it can look and feel good.

lindalanafirst let me say what a beautiful array of specimens you have, gorgeous and impressive. I think I planted my first in the 80's and continued on from there. I have added new ones over time so some areas look odd with a mix of mature and new.

Thank you Paula. Your plants are looking sooo happy. I hope you get some rain but not too much. The feast or famine thing can get old. I stopped watering years ago. I am on a well and we have had three years of drought in a row. In the previous years it would be feast or famine.

Lisa thank you. You have been busy! Some things like paths seem to be on going maintenance for me at least. Your Spruce is really doing well. Poison hemlock is beyond wicked to deal with, so sorry this beast is multiplying. Summer Breeze is a beauty, I am trying to find space for one.
