Maximize ocean view

We are renovating a house in Baja and I want to maximize this view. We get frequent heavy winds and very little rain. We don't have/need air conditioning or heating.

We're raising the roof so it will come out flat from the main part of the house. The room dimensions are about 23.5' x 15', with a 9' ceiling.

I can have coated aluminium windows and doors custom-made here, so I want to maximize the view while keeping the cost reasonable.

Any ideas?

I would suggest that you look at installing clear or even low iron (for extra clear visibility) laminated glass to maximize the view through the windows. Single sheets of laminated glass can easily span your openings, plus laminated adds both safety and security that regular glass doesn't have.

You don't want any cross bars that will get in the way of the view. I find the metal corrugated roof charming.

Oh, I LOVE this look! We are putting a ceiling in, but I like this idea much better! I wonder if there's a way to do the same look while making it rain-proof!

Why wouldn't corrugated metal be rainproof? If the region gets rain, you have to have a pitch, no matter how slight to the roof so the rain can roll off. 1" / 12" pitch should work.

Every patio in Malibu has tall frameless glass panels surrounding the patio to minimize the winds. I'm sure you can find lots of info in that area.

Beverly, what is the sound like of rain on a metal roof?

I'm sort of amazed that corrugated metal or even plastic are used as roofs in a high end home. They evoke more of a lean-to or shanti vibe in my mind.

Please do your research before you use aluminum. Go either with anodized finish or if you powder coat, make sure it has a special ocean finish to it. The aluminum must be specially treated before the powder coating is applied. If not, the paint will start pealing after 2 years...Best of Luck.
