What about a small demilune table with a little lamp? Not in the middle of the wall, it will block too mich aisle, but between the light switches. It will soften the lines of the apartment, and allow a nice flow around that wall, without bruising your hips.

I agree with chispa and bpath … it seems too narrow there for a console. I’d look for wonderful art — vintage from Etsy, Ebay, etc maybe — and make it a focal wall that way.

I agree, the space looks too narrow for a console, but a great large piece of artwork could make a nice home there above the dang light switches.

Anyone else remember beaded curtains in Wendy's fast food restaurants? Thinking of it makes me want a chocolate frosty. Haven't had one in decades.

Hmm. I never saw them at Wendy’s, but my DD had them in her bedroom growing up and she LOVES chocolate frostys, so there might be some kind of connection there. :D

With 3 ft you don't really have enough room for a console. Look for one large piece of art or you can do a gallery wall if you have several pieces.

Is your front door right there? Do you need a landing zone?

On my reno or new build projects, I spend max time on electrical and cold air return placements. Small changes make all the design and functional improvements that really help come furniture and art/lighting placements. Takes time often in harsh conditions to work through these placements. They are quite often not planned out in advance and are done in situ. Very bad practice. Usually very difficult to fix later and involves several craft too. I think you can work around these with some clever wall hangings and painting switches wall color so less obvious.

I actually have that in my cart right now. I could put it on the right side of the wall with a mirror over it but what would I do with the left side of the wall? I’m not good at this.

bpath- my door is around that DARK corner where you see the tree. The lighting sucks! You can see how dark it is.

I don't have any dimensions but you don't need to overload your wall, it's seems to be a small space.

Lynette, I think even a narrow console would still be in the way … and being so narrow, it wouldn’t serve much of a purpose. It would also look somewhat crowded with your TV console being across, and leggy and busy with that and the barstools and your coffee table all in close proximity.

Try this: find a narrow box or something else, put it on the wall, and see if you like something being in that walkway.

It’s your apartment, though, not mine … do what works best for you. :)

I think you’re right. I think just an oversized picture or maybe a group of 3. Not sure I can find a picture that big for less than $1,000! Do you think the 3 pics across the wall would look good? I took measurements off the app to get a better idea.

You could cut out cardboard or just paper in various sizes and put up with painter’s tape to play with sizes and placement. Don’t be me and have 8,057 holes on a wall by just trying to eye it. 😄

Search around for inspiration … lots of examples out there of groupings, one big piece, gallery, etc. My preference would be more than one piece of art, and taking time to find what really speaks to you. It’ll be the focal point of the rooms.

Unasked for advice, please forgive me, but I’d want a lamp or lamps in the room.

wdccruise, ha, funny conversation, but wouldn’t apply in my experiences.

I used to work for a volume builder (apts and houses) and electricians went by the plans, period. They didn’t get to decide where outlets and switches go … especially in commercial builds.

My DH is an electrician. I showed him the picture and he agreed the placement wasn’t ideal, but a couple of reasons could be: something in the wall preventing better placement (plumbing, etc), or the contractor was being cheap by putting the switches there instead of using more boxes (which would cost a lot for every apartment) by putting two three-ways on either side of the wall.

Most likely the latter!

(With custom builds, my DH does have input on the best placement.)

Anyway, I have a wall with bad switch placements and just ignore them. I truly don’t even notice them anymore, I love my art there. :)
