Help with Master Bath layout

last modified: 2 years ago

As title says. I am in the process of redoing my entire subfloor in the master bed/bath/laundry as part of the remodel. I have a layout plan, but since I have a clean slate want to be sure that the layout works as this is the time to change if I need to. Before anyone gets upset that I am asking on Houzz, I have had drawings from an architect. Without getting into detail, I am not asking for any more help from this architect, as it was already a free service and this person doesnt live in my area. These have all been my ideas anyways. I am the designer, GC, late night worker/cleaner upper/apprentice carpenter etc. Hired out plumbing, electric and framers are building walls and supports.

That out of the way.

I am attaching some photos of the original floor plan, demo plan and proposed master plan (with the rest of the main floor rooms to show the flow). I am attaching another of my own drawing of a second layout plan that I thought of, but dont like as much as the one in the architect drawings.

Basically, I am looking for some more eyes/thoughts/suggestions or other potential cool layout options that I just havent thought of.

Its a large space... 13' x 15'. The caveat is that I would like my toilet to stay where it is in the drawings (in the little nook that is 33" x 62.5"). I have created a bump out wall for the vanity to sit flush with the wall. My thought with that is it gives me alot more space for my original idea for walking clearances. Also still affords me room in the master bedroom (I think). So I am also thinking that stays.. unless there is a better alternative that will lose the bump out giving more space to the master bedroom. As an aside, I moved my laundry room from the mudroom all the way across the house in the kitchen closer to the bedrooms. I just prefer it this way. That will not change.

Also, I am trying to keep the majority of plumbing centered in the room and closer to the laundry room which is where the plumbing stacks are for this part of the house. If i get too far to the right wall, its going to be a 16 ft run and will have a challening running pipe in my 2x10 floor joists without having to tear through basement finished ceiling. Part of the reason I do not want to move my toilet is because it just kind of fits nice there, but also because anywhere else would be a plumbing disaster.

Here is the original layout with demo plans:

Here is the close up of the proposed master layout:

Here are some inspiration photos that got me to this point.

The accent wall will be this from tile bar: (click "this" in the sentence)

Here is the master layout without anything in the bathroom (except toilet) to give a visual of the space. Sorry the top of the layout got cut off. The top wall is 15' 7".

** each small square is 6". The larger cube is 2' x 2'

Here is another layout that I thought about... I just put this together to give an idea of layout... it has not been edited for perfectness.

** each small square is 6". The larger cube is 2' x 2'

Oh and the toilet is a toto bidet S7A wall hung with in wall geberit frame.

Edit: I didnt add windows in the layouts yet. The architect drawing shows where the proposed ones will go. The windows will be on the far right wall (both in the bath and bedroom). I will have a wide but narrow window closer to the ceiling to give us light across the room but still keep it private. Kinda like this...

Bedroom widnows along the right side wall will look like this... We are thinking about a similar accent wall behind the bed just like this one, similar color below.
