Yellow siding - Painting Red Brick

We are interested in painting the red brick on the sides of the garage. We are leaning toward the color of the shutters and front door. SW Peppercorn. Any other ways that we could update the look of this house?

The dark brick is a high contrast to the siding and the garage door, which draws attention to the less attractive garage section of your house. I would paint the brick in the same white as the garage doors. Not a high contrast gray.

Draw attention to the front door with a more lively colour. I picked blue because I think I see water in the background. But there are lots of colours that will look good with your soft yellow siding. If you are adding anything like annual flowers, flower pots, a table by the front door, door mat etc, repeat the same colour as your front door. Repeating your accent colour several times is a good look, the same as you would do with indoor decorating, .

The black shutters draw attention to the long blank garage wall, not in a good way. Remove them, or paint them white if the siding under them is a different colour from the rest because of the sun protection they provided.

Taller shrubs will make a big difference and will be more in proportion to your house, especially the large garage wall. Either let the existing ones grow tall, or replace some with a taller variety. Or maybe a bed of tall grass along the garage? The bed across the front of your house would look better if it were deeper too.

I don't find the garage light a problem. Changing it won't make a big difference.

Cute house and great location. It won't take much to bring out its full charm.

No shutters on your house. Why? Shutters are architectural and your low roof ranch doesn't qualify. I don't mind the applied brick if you paint it (gives a texture to the siding) but I don't like the farmhouse style goose neck sconce over the garage door (which is not in keeping with the style of your house.) Because the garage over powers the house, to balance it I suggest you paint the entire siding a dark color. That includes the garage door.

You have a great lot. The big tree...what is it? Do you get shade?

What style light would you recommend? We don't love it either. Thank you for the feedback on the shutters. They were there when we bought it & I guess I never really questioned it.

IMO thta nice brick trim is the best thing about the house . The yellow siding is the wrong colr for the brick the huge white garage door that is front and center is much mor eof an eyesore than the brick. No shutters no window boxes a lot better landscaping and a nice sage green for the siding and leave the brick Not sure what your style is but I do lve the really dark siding too. The garge door the same color as the siding .

If you want to "update" the house, you might be going in the wrong direction by focusing on painting the brick - the yellow is what is dating the house. Instead of changing the brick, think about replacing your garage door with something that is close in color to the darkest brown in the brick, and then paint the house a sage green. Updated landscaping would complete the look.

House feels flat and just needs more definition. I’d paint garage and front door a mid tone grey (which will help warm up and unify the house, given the roof’s color) and leave brick, remove shutters and add contrast/interest with some landscaping.

What SJ said - the most dated thing about this house is the pale yellow paint. It’s forever a 1960-1970s color to me.

I like the pale yellow paint colour. I assumed the OP was looking for a way for a way to work with it, not change it.

Sage green looks great on the brick house posted above, but the OP's house is a darker and less pink colour brick. And there is such a tiny amount of high contrast brick that it looks unbalanced. Switching one pale colour for another won't make the house look better.

Remember you cannot use acrylic house paint. Use limewash or masonry paint.
