It looks ok to me, especially if dug this time of year. Keep it shaded and moist. Clay pots dry out very quickly, so you'll have to keep an eye on the moisture level.

Is it a hardy fern? Ferns do not do very well indoors........generally far too dry for them and too warm in winter. Most ferns will do best outdoors, in at least partial shade and evenly moist (not wet) soil. Even non-hardy ferns will appreciate being outside for the mild summer months.

It's a Lemon Button Fern. I bought one at wallmart. It was doing fine in a south facing window with regular watering, sitting on wet gravel for humidity. I put it outside about a week ago and it has gone steadily downhill from being mollested by chipmunks.🦫😩
