FOTESS: JULY SWAP – PARLEZ VOUS “OLYMPICS”?
FOTESS stands for Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps. If you are not already a member but would like more details, you can send me a message or post here with a way I can contact you.
So for JULY I thought of the idea of combining red, white and blue this month along with the Olympics and the host country France. Hope you will want to join in. (I love all three of the topics I just mentioned.) Even with all that, I kept this SIMPLE.
If you want to join in on the swap, simply post here before July 9th.
You will send a French recipe of whatever kind you like and a card (bought or handmade – even a note card is fine). Would be great if it has something in some way related to France or the Olympics, even the colors red, white, and blue or the Olympic ring colors. If that doesn't seem to work for you, any type of card. Then please also add an item that represents any of the following: Olympics, France, red, white, and blue or the Olympic ring colors.
What you send should be something that is lightweight and can be sent in one of those bubble envelopes. In fact if what you send will go for first class postage with a stamp, that is okay, too. For the tuck-in, there will be lots of choices. Even as I thought about seeds – anything with Gold, Silver or Bronze in the name, red white or blue or the colors of the Olympic rings: green, blue, black, red, and yellow – at least one of those colors is usually included in most flags throughout the world. Even a packet of seeds where you have used a few seeds is fine. How about “runner” beans? Let's keep it easy. And it doesn't have to be seeds – a bookmark, a pack of paper napkins, a little note pad … lots of options.
If you want to play the game for July, send your Bingo words to me by July 2 so I can start to draw words for Bingo early in the month.
(Bingo word choices have been added below!)
If late June/early July are busy for you, once you send your words to me, you can just catch up with the words drawn when you get access to a computer again – or aren't in the middle of traveling or busy with guests. It seems it usually takes a few weeks before someone has all the Bingo words and calls “Bingo”so if you get very busy, this should still work out. Join in on the fun!
So much horrible weather across the country. Stay cool and stay safe

Original Author2 years agoThanks for helping me deal with the loss of Sydney. I'm still very much on her time frame - always thinking time to feed her, time to walk her, etc.
Bad storm here a bit earlier but not as bad as when we got impacted by Beryl. They say several more days of rain, but it's making the temperatures drop and the plants are happy.
Today's Bingo words: COGNAC and TORCH RELAY
I have brownies in the oven so I'd bettter go check on them...

Original Author2 years agoToday's Bingo words give us a look at Paris: ARC DE TRIOMPHE and LOUVRE.
Anyone have any garden news or pictures? With the most recent rains and more to come, my lawn is back to green and things are getting a little new growth. On a day when it's not wet or raining it will be time to mow. Haven't done that for weeks since it had been so dry.

Original Author2 years agoBeautiful flowers! Thanks for the pictures.
My card from Annie arrived today - a great card and recipe and I'll take a picture to post tomorrow. Flowers in my yard are few and far betwen. That extreme heat and no rain for about a month stopped any flower production on most. I have some crocosmia in bloom and that's about it right now. That is one tough plant.

Original Author2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoSo sorry. Got behind here.
Yesterday's words were: BASKETBALL and DIVING.
Today's words are: FRANCE and BURGUNDY.
Here is the card and recipe I received from Annie. Thanks so much. Beautiful job making the card. She even included a few red, white and blue postage stamps. Great idea! And the recipe she sent is for French Onion Galette ... sounds wonderful and I will try to make it soon.

In the background you see the flowers I received from Chewy in sympathy for Sydney's passing. Her prescription food and medications were ordered from them and such a sweet gesture when I told them Sydney had passed away..- 2 years ago
Jeanne, WOW...that card made it to you fast. Just checked Amazon....The other small part of your swap is still scheduled to arrive at your home tomorrow.
Happy Sunday....stay cool!! sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoSomeone named Sharon tried to reach me to get information about our swap. I tried to respond to your message but nothing is going through. Might just be me with not understanding the newer messages system. Anyway, if you see this, maybe there is another way for you to contact me?

We had some wonderful rain this weekend and cooler temps. So thankful for that.
Saturday was our July Euless Garden Club meeting. We've had some really good topics this year. This month's topic was microgreens, by a local person who grows them at his house and sells to a health food store. I used to eat a lot of sprouts, but never paid much attention to microgreens. I did buy seeds once for the pea shoots, but never planted them. I just thought they were to add to salads or sandwiches. I never realized the higher concentration of vitamins and minerals of the Microgreens compared to their counterpart mature plants. Now I'm very interested in growing them for the health value. Plus, I love all greens.
I'd love any advice from any of you that grow them.

Original Author2 years agoGlad you got rain, Ruth. It seems every time I check my rain gauge there is 2 or more inches in it. Likely we have gotten 6" worth over the past 9-10 days and more ahead. It doesn't even rain all day long, but when it comes down it sure comes down. So nice that your garden club meets over the summer. Mine doesn't but they did plan some activities for each month of the summer this year so that was nice. So busy I haven't made it to one yet!
Annie. thank you for the little gift that came in the mail today. I haven't taken it out of the plastic yet, but it's a reusable bag for groceries and whatnot and has a design with the Eiffel Tower. Love it and it will be very useful.
So odd, when I pick Bingo words they often relate to each other. Today we have French phrases: BONJOUR and BON VOYAGE.
sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoFrench food and drink for Bingo words today: CREPES and CHAMPAGNE. Sounds pretty good!
Opening ceremony for the Olympics is almost here. I will be plugged to the TV quite a bit while the Olympics are going on.
Annie, I haven't mailed yet, but will soon and will post when I do.

Original Author2 years agoOur Bingo words for today: C'est La Vie and Swimming.
Continuing daily rain here. Lots of happy grass, trees and plants.
Rain would be lovely........
Jeanne, no rush on sending. I am leaving Saturday or Sunday and will be home Tuesday or Wednesday.
So looking forward to the Olympics....and, of course, Opening Ceremony Friday night.
Ruth, re: microgreens.....I have done a few different seeds in jars (sprouts) and shallow trays. I buy Botanical Interest seeds. You remind me, I have not done it in a while. I need to see if I have any seeds. They are tasty!! sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoOur daily rain and a bit of thunder just showed up so I'll keep this short. Bingo words for today are BON APPETIT and OLYMPIC MASCOT.
I just finished setting some of the Olympics up to record for later viewing. Can't wait!

Nicole, have you not received anything from me yet? I mailed over a week ago and am concerned that it may be lost.
sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoAnnie, I mailed your package today. I guess I should start listing who sent and received. I'll try for that tomorrow. Today I've been glued to the TV watching coverage of the Olympics - from when the torch arrived by boat in Marseilles through to the lighting of the cauldron in Paris. Everything was wonderful. I felt bad for them that it rained, but you would never have know it from the performances. Seemed everyone did their part perfectly.
Our Bingo words for today are BON COURAGE and PALACE DE VERSAILLES.

Ruth ~ my notification shows delivered from amazon. hope you got it. hopefully you get my card by this friday.
- 2 years agolast modified: 2 years ago
Yes I did get mail from Amazon last night. Nicole sent a beautiful Welcome American garden flag. Thank you so much. I enjoy having a good collection of flags to change out.
I mailed on the 18th< I believe. How long should I give it before mailing again? I know we've had issues like this before.

sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoRuth, Unfortunately now and then some mail doesn't seem to go where it should and gets shuffled around. See what you and Nicole think about how long to wait. No problem with me and there being a delay. We know that you sent. However, if you begin to give up on it being received, we'll thank you to send a second time.
Our Bingo words for today: OLYMPICS 2024 and FLEUR-DIS-LIS.
Hopefully Bingo will happen this week!
As of today's mail, I didn't get the card. I am sorry it hasn't arrive yet. No worries. I am surprise how we get our mail anyway, it goes through so many hands/machines/etc etc. May be this week it will come.
I need two more words for bingo...
Happy Monday everyone!! sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoYes, Bingo is going on and on but we'll have a winner soon. My strips I drawn from are getting pretty low. Today we have: BONNE CHANCE and BLUE.
Annie, I looked at my slip from the post office and they predicted your package would arrive today, but who knows?
I received my card from Nicole a couple days ago, but couldn’t remember where I put it. Duh, I had left it with incoming mail.
Great selection of seeds. Thanks so much.

Today will be 2 weeks since I mailed. I guess I’ll need to mail again. It will be something different since I don’t have duplicates of what I mailed originally.
Sorry Ruth for the trouble and also for sending a Christmas card but that's all I had at the moment. I did try to do red, white, and blue with the seeds. The card/seeds got there so quickly. I am surprised this batch of cards (yours and others that I have mailed from other groups I am in) got them so quickly.
Hope for a great garden season for you!
Happy Friday EVE EVE everyone!! I still need two more bingo words :) - 2 years ago
I have been out of town....returned late last night.
Jeanne, your package to me arrived. I have not gone through my mail yet. I will post your niceness to me today. I need to do a few things around here before I do the mail thing....but thank goodness there is very little mail....LOL!!! Thank you in advance.
And I need to catch up on BINGO....soon!! - 2 years ago
Nicole, you don't need to apologize. It's just our WONDERFUL postal service. Maybe one of us will eventually get it. I mailed a $30. something dollar money order to Georgia for a copy of my delayed birth certificate back in January. Haven't heard a thing from them. Lucky for me I found my old one.
And I love Christmas cards and the seeds.
Are y'all affected with this,
" The state of Texas is bracing for a Saharan dust outbreak, as large plumes travel northward from the African desert and move over the Atlantic." Our air quality is bad today. I'm trying to stay inside as much as possible.
sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoOh my, Ruth. I hate to think of a storm like that. I would stay inside.
Today's Bingo words. After this only 3 words left to pick so we are getting to the end. For today GREEN and BAGUETTES.
By the way, there is no swap for August. If anyone in FOTESS wants to post a heading for the Month of August for chatting and pictures, please be my guest.
Very cool PARLEZ VOUS OLYMPICS package from Jeanne....
*Paris card with Eiffel Tower*I Pledge Allegiance..... To/From
*Recipe.....BLANC-MANGE....I have never heard of this. It is like Vanilla Pudding and very easy to make. Jeanne's Great Grandmother used to make this for Jeanne when she was young. OK, I will give this a try.
*Several "PARIS" puzzle pieces.....I do love to put puzzle pieces on cards.
Jeanne's gifts were all wrapped in white tissue with USA colored ribbons.
Very much enjoyed this month of Olympic excitement......I am going to lounge (haha) shortly and watch Simone win the All Around.
Thanks Jeanne!!
And Ruth, no news of the Saharan Dust Outbreak out here. I will read about that!! Possibly monsoon showers here today.....fingers crossed.
And the USPS.....shame, shame shame.....they keep raising prices and the mail delivery is slower and slower or LOST. - 2 years ago
Now I need one more bingo word. Ladies check your bingo words to see if you are winner otherwise its a tight race :)
Ooops I forgot to put a recipe to Ruth. I will msg you one that I like to use. Hope you can get some stuff done Ruth since you need to be indoors due to the air quality.
Take care everyone!! sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThis should be the last time I post for Bingo. One word still to be drawn, but someone should have Bingo with these: SILVER and GYMNASTICS. First person to post Bingo wins. Thanks so much for participating. Made the month of July so much more fun!
Funny, I bet I know what that one word is, since I still need one word.
Nicole, I got the crepes recipe.
I'm working on something to send out, hopefully today.
Ruth...LOL!! "Funny, I bet I know what that one word is, since I still need one word"
I think the three of us (Ruth, Nicole and me), need the same word and it isn't SILVER. - 2 years ago
I posted an August chat post, but it didn't show up. I'll give it until tomorrow and then post another if it's still not here.
Just mailed another envelope to Nicole. Should receive on Monday. I have a tracking number this time, so hopefully better luck in getting it.
sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoSorry you had to do that, Ruth. We all certainly know you sent the first time. This hasn't happened recently but for the longest time I kept getting mail in my mailbox that wasn't for me. Sometimes I would write "not at this address" put it back out there and sometimes it just came back again --- once it arrived here 3 times! If it's an address in the neighborhood I would just walk to deliver it when I was out walking my dog. Other times I had no idea who it was for.
sandlapper_rose
Original Author2 years agoSorry, everyone. I had been checking off words as I drew and posted them and according to my list there are still 3 I have not drawn. Please recheck your words after I post the 2 for tomorrow. Someone definitely should have Bingo then.
bingo!! The last two were silver and baguettes.
Ahh Ruth, thank you for resending. I am sorry, may be it will show up. Thank you for resending and I will let you know when your happy mail will come my way.
