BEFORE & AFTER - Sacramento, CA

last modified: 2 years ago

Objective: change from existing dark, dated formality to bright, contemporary space for entertaining a group.

Client: Lives in San Francisco and owns this, his childhood home, in Sacramento.

BEFORE

AFTER (nice what new paint can do)

First, I specified a new entry door be installed and the floor of the sunken living room be raised, new lighting added, and I designed a new fireplace wall with built in floating shelf and alcove for television (I, personally do not like a television in the living room, but the client insisted).

Next, I suggested removal of the wall between the kitchen and dining room and a new kitchen with a large island be created.

Next, I suggested the wall between the existing dining room and kitchen be removed.

I also suggested the dining room be moved to the old family room area, meanwhile I designed a new stair railing that is in keeping with a contemporary design.

My space planning abilities were used to change the master bath area and I selected new finishes and fixtures here as well.

BEFORE (Sink area open to bedroom)

AFTER (sinks hidden behind wall)

Selected new fixtures and finishes for powder room.

Last, I selected all new doors, paint colors for interior and exterior, skylights, light fixtures, hardware, and furniture. I selected, placed, and hung all artwork pieces in the client’s gallery of well-loved art. Overall, working together with my incredible client, we created a new, fresh, contemporary design.

I hope you like this transformation as much as my client and I did! Let me know what you think.
