While you were gone did you get any strong rains or hail? Hail can make your hosta look like a tossed salad.

Earwigs and flea beetles will also produce similar damage to hostas.

Thanks. We did receive damaging winds and rain. Enough to blow my birdbath over. I've never heard of flea beetles before. I don't believe it's earwigs given the you tube videos I've just seen on the damage that they do. Will check into them.

Deborah, I believe my hostas have earwig damage this year. Cutworm too. I don’t usually have a slug problem because I do a vinegar (10 parts water/ 1 part vinegar or ammonia) which generally takes care of them. Cutworms and earwigs are a different story. I treated with sluggo plus, but maybe didn’t use enough.

Thanks..we recently had quarter inch hail in high winds...after this next storm goes by, I'll set out beer to see if anything is captured and then move on to other nontoxic solutions for earwigs and flea beetles, etc...
