What does a home warranty cover?

Just bought my first house and I'm trying to wrap my head around home warranties. Can someone break down what exactly a home warranty covers? From what I understand, it's different from homeowners insurance, but I'm not sure how. Does it cover things like appliances and systems (like HVAC, plumbing, electrical), or is it more for structural stuff?

Are there things that typically aren't included? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting one or if I'm better off just setting money aside for repairs.

A home warranty usually cover whatever is written in the home warranty.

Take the money that you would pay each month for the "home warranty" and save it for any repairs. My mom got talked into one of those and they never paid for anything--I had her cancel it. Total waste of money.

When we built our home it came with a home warranty as was required for all new builds. It was a complete waste of money, the insurer tried desperately to avoid helping us handle an issue that came up and were awful to deal with. I get that we had to have it so someone moot but it was exceptionally frustrating
