Your current ceiling track light locations do not lend themselves to hanging fixtures. I would recommend that you have an electrician add a few LED pot lights to your room and then add additional lighting with floor and table lamps. What is hanging from the celing in front of the door????

Wires are hanging, because thats where the gold/glass fixture is going in the entry way. do you recommend pot lighting because the cielings are short?, so new track lighting wouldnt work here?

Personally I am not a fan of track lighting....to me a very dated look and really does not provide adequate lighting. It also appears that your room is very dark thus the addition of pot lights would be helpful. Varying the types of lighting in a room (ceiling, table, floor) is the ideal way to light a room.

It is hard to tell from your picture about the fixture you selected above the door....it might work but hard to tell.

Ceiling lights are the least of the issues in this room.

The electrical boxes in the ceiling are not in locations that are correct for anything going on in this room.

I'm sure the couch/bed is comfy, but it's too large for the room. No one places a TV in front of a window, so how do you plan to fix your room? I've made a few adjustments to items that appear to be placed at random in the space. The room really requires lamps, not ceiling lights. Maybe a ceiling fan would provide some help with airflow.

Also susan, do you recommend pots lights in just the existing holes, or additional?

Melissa, I'm saying it's not worth paying good money to purchase replacement light fixtures that are not in the right location. Why spend good money to duplicate what is already a mistake?

You definately need additional pot lights in that space. It is hard for me to say if you could use the existing holes but getting an electrician in to give you an estimate and recommendations would be my next step.

beverly, im on a major budget / maternity leave and already have spent money are major upgrades, so for now im updating enough to sell.

This isnt my designer forever home. but i would like to update it enough to sell and enjoy it for another year

If you are on a tight budget two faux cans in those spots will be better than anything surface mounted. If you can stretch the budget add more faux cans so the space is lit evenly. Put them on dimmers as one layer of the lighting in the room.

Recessed lighting in living rooms is just not a great look nor a great way to light the room, except in kitchens or bathrooms. Eliminate the track lighting and replace it with table and floor lamps. If you want to hard-wire a lighting fixture, use wall sconces instead. They give off a much better light than overhead.

I love my recessed lighting, it’s perfect in the kitchen, living room and sitting area next to the dining room. We have dimmers for the living room and sitting area. But if you are selling and short on cash, just leave the track lights. It’s an interesting room with the big slider and stove. Looks cozy.🙂

no cut glass no edison blubs, if you do not do recessed, i would go with simple white small track, literal track not this "spot light" look, and get more light in the room accent the things you want etc. track does not have to be done incorrectly lol.
