REALLY????? Are you going MCM ? Show us the space at least . A lot more info needs to be privided to even begin to answer this .I had to go find out what an Eastern king bed was so now I know just a regular king. IMO if going MCM I would keep my bed with no box spring but a nice platform bed witha good mattress . That usually eliminates the need for a bed skirt . I ould not use a barn door on a bathroom they are not sound proof . I have a simple flatform bed with an upholstered headboard but with the cover removeable for washing . my bed has a frame that is 3" wide all around the other 3 sides so I usually make my bed with the bedding tucked in all around I ahve a MCM style bedroom .So like this

I am in California, where the Cal King bed was invented; thus, I say "Eastern King" bed to avoid any ambiguity. Stores here generally stock bedding for Cal King; Eastern King bedding is often a special order.

I am including two photos of the space. These show my dresser, which was my first furniture purchase. I paid $66 for it when I was in grade school and I still enjoy using it. The furniture maker was Mengel. The mahogany was harvested in the African rainforests, in the area currently known as Ghana. My parents paid for twin bed frames that matched the dresser, but my Mom sold those 20 years ago.

[Edited to clarify that I have abandoned the idea of using the existing dresser; instead, I plan to purchase a new dresser that matches new night tables. It is just too difficult to find something to match.]

More details on dimensions ... the maximum width for the headboard is 84 inches, to avoid overlapping the 4-inch casing that I added around the windows. My preferred bed height (floor to top of mattress) is 24 - 25 inches. I would like 7-inch clearance under the bed.

Preferences: I prefer a spring mattress (conventional) over a foam mattress, but would also consider a hybrid. I am concerned about bumping my knees on the corners of a wood frame, so upholstered or headboard-only sounds better. [Edited to add that I tried a hybrid bed (foam + spring coils) but did not like it as much as spring coils only.]

I had to look up "MCM." At first, I misread the acronym as "MGM," thinking you were talking about a Hollywood style (art deco?). Now, I realize you meant "mid-century modern." Nothing in my house is mid-century modern, so it would be a diversion to go in that direction for the primary bedroom.

My house was built in the 80's, in a Cape Cod style. I've done a lot of remodeling (including taking the grids off the windows), which has moved it more toward transitional / coastal.

No door, previously, between the primary bedroom and the en suite bathroom. I had the cabinet-builder provide the solid wood barn door to match the new cabinetry in the bathroom when I remodeled. The door is shown in the photos below

I have water-proofing in the bathroom, but sound-proofing is a terrible idea. What if I have a medical emergency in the bathroom and shout for help? No one will hear me!

I am including an inspiration photo below of a bedroom set used in staging for a primary bedroom in a new construction home in my neighborhood.

I looked at beds in Quatrine, which offers upholstered and a slipcover option for headboard only or for a platform bed. -The slipcover is more of a cottage or shabby-chic look -- not sure if I would like it -- see inspiration photo below.

Pros:

-- removable and washable slipcovers; dozens of fabrics from which to choose

-- can upholster additional pieces in matching fabric: swivel chair, bench

-- can choose bedding (duvet, bed skirt, pillow shams) in matching fabric

Cons:

-- The washable slipcover on the bed frame seems impractical -- - need to lift up the mattress to wash it -- same as with a bed skirt

-- The slipcover on the headboard may be difficult to remove for cleaning and to fit back on after its been washed

I have decided against a panel bed, after realizing that these are available only in a traditional style -- ornately carved headboard with a matching footboard, and a coverlet or bedspread in lieu of a bedskirt, as in photo below.

This narrows my selection to a platform bed frame with mattress only (and maybe a low-profile foundation) versus headboard only with conventional mattress, box spring, and metal frame.

I am rethinking wood vs upholstered for the headboard. I noticed that a neighbor placed their upholstered headboard on the sidewalk for pickup on trash day. Now I'm remembering that's what I did with my previous upholstered headboard.

Currently, I have an old queen-size mattress set on a metal frame -- I tossed the previous regular King set when I was shifting beds around. I don't think I have any photos of the space that would be useful, but I will look.
