Here is how to post a Design Dilemma to get the best results. You need to show the whole space—all four sides of an entire space—even if it’s about one specific Dilemma.

Keep in mind that you're inviting some design pros and people with a design eye into your home via photos. If they walked into your actual space, they would take in all of it: all four sides, doorways, floors, windows, ceiling, built-in fixtures, lighting, trim--the "givens"--then the features that can be changed--furnishings, paint, art, rugs, decor items, etc. It's all one first impression. Same thing with photos. That's why it's important to provide well lit photos of the entire space, taken from all sides of a room regardless of the size of your problem.

Some inspiration might also be helpful. Otherwise we're just guessing.

You can cover them with a wallpaper or fabric, either plain, textured and/or patterned.

Much better without reflections. Might also want to hang the TV.

Definitely less mirror. If you can't remove it, then use peel & stick wallpaper. Remove some of the glass shelves and use larger objects and some books. Too many vases with flowers now.

I'd also cover or remove the mirrors.

Depending on your style, I would also consider removing the glass shelves and having a finish carpenter make painted wood shelves for the unit. Add a long shelf to the empty space above the TV.

It's a too narrow family room which we think calls for us removing the middle cabinet along with maybe the mirror tower to the middle section

i imagine the room would be better if the whole unit (or parts of it) was removed, just keep in mind that there is likely not flooring beneath the cabinets so you’ll need a plan for that

There are a million of those wall units that were built down here in Florida in the 80's Tear it out and just the wall.

I’d remove the mirror and replace glass shelves with wood. As is, the glass lends itself to one or two little things per shelf which all combined just reads as a whole bunch of precious. I’d want stacks of books and bigger objects that look a little weightier at least on the lower shelves.

Personally, I try to avoid open shelving because to find the perfect items is expensive and exhausting (have to dust them). I would put doors on the openings.

To modernize the space, we might suggest doing away with the mirrors and shelves in the current unit. Then just have the whole thing be white, white backs, white shelves, etc. You could also add black hardware to update it. If you don't want to try to update what is there, you could look into just getting a console and mounting the TV on the wall.
