Is there any way you can provide a to-scale floor plan of existing conditions plus the options you're considering? Graph paper and pencil will do the trick nicely and prevent misunderstandings.

I like your idea if you feel the space would be better used than the porch is currently. This might just be perspective from pictures, but the room seems narrow and long to me, especially with the addition, however you know better how the space feels when you are standing inside of it. I’m just not sure how much the extension will help the width issue, since it’s only being extended width-wise on the end of the room. However, I’m no expert and would love to hear from other Houzzers!

Thank you! I would definitely use the addition (old porch) more if I had it enclosed. Right now I only use it as a covered storage area. The room is narrow, you’re right. I wish it was wider but I don’t think this is an option without renovating other areas of my house. And, lots of $$$. My garage is the wall facing the 12 o’clock position in my drawings. And the room behind my closet is the only bathroom on the first floor. Thank you for your input! :)

The 9'7" dimension is the biggest problem, and you're not able to solve that with this addition. Have you placed furniture in the proposed space (on your graph paper) to make sure adding 8' is the right answer (as opposed to just 3-5')? I don't know what you're trying to put in the room, so I don't know. To me, 8' sounds like too much as then the length of the room will be twice the width which is an unattractive proportion. Sometimes more isn't better.

It seems to me that a better solution would be to repurpose the existing room for an additional bath and then add on a bedroom. But of course this is substantially different from a budgetary standpoint. But as soon as you pierce the exterior to add on you're talking real money too. Since you aren't increasing the number of bedrooms or baths with this project, make sure it makes financial sense. I don't think you'll be adding much value for the cost. Of course you are probably feeling cramped in the existing space, so I understand where you're coming from. Just make sure this is a good way for you to spend your money.
