Dryers are most efficient (and safest) on an outside wall. for ease of venting. I can't tell if any part of your laundry is on an outside wall or not.

The mud room closet is severely hampered by the cubbies - the top end of the closet is inaccessible (therefore inefficient). Make the closet doors full width, add shelves inside, and put a bench in the corner were the cubbies were.

It would be easier to understand the problem if we could see the surrounding rooms. Which walls wee opened up?

Thank you. The venting is not an issue. i just want to figure out how to maximize the laundry room space to include some hanging and storage. I have a coat closet at the entrance to my house. this is an extra closet. i understand you point about making it go across. i have 3 kids that would be using the cubbies so i was hoping to keep that

I see. What do you plan to store in the extra coat closet? I would put shelves on that deep end for things I don't need often, like suitcases or holiday decorations.

I would put shelves or cabinets above the sink, and more shelves and hanging space on the right side.

Our laundry room is tiny, so clothes immediately get put away when they come out of the dryer. In our old house, I put clothes on hangers as they came out of the dryer (so hanging space there was nice), but when everything was hung it got distributed to bedrooms pretty quickly, so I didn't need a lot of hanging space.

Is the attached plan from before the walls were opened? Is it now one space, or still two? Wee can see that the mudroom opens to the kitchen, the oven is right there, but where does the laundry open to? Is there any reason to move the door? Maybe, don’t know.

What kind of storage do you need to accommodate? How many people/kids? What is the laundry routine? What else do you want to use the space for? We had a laundry room that was also our ”fix it space”, for simple glueing things back together, letting kits dry, etc.
