How to fix my small living room design problems?

I’m struggling with the design on this room. We bought the cognac couches 5 years ago and we’re hoping to get a few more years out of them before replacing them with something else (perhaps a sectional that isn’t so wide and maybe in a safe color?) but in the meantime, I’d love to have some feedback on what we can do to make this space more functional and aesthetically pleasing. We have a toddler, so the we’ll be replacing the shelves below the tv with a closed credenza. We also removed the coffee table because it was glass, and problematic. We don’t have lighting in this room and floor lamps have proven to not only be an issue with our toddler, but also with space. I’m thinking of doing sconces on both sides of the tv and perhaps replacing the odd round wall shelf unit with a sconce. I’m open to all suggestions, including couch replacements for how to make this space seem more fluid. Any advice is welcome and I thank you in advance for the help given!

Your room is nice, It won't need much to look more finished and homey.

Patterned Roman blinds will make the windows look more finished and be toddler-proof.

Do you have wiring in the ceiling? A chandelier (not fancy) would look nice in your space, add some light, and also be toddler-proof.

Your gallery wall is hung too high. I would find some more items or replace the whole arrangement with one piece of art.

How much can you ( or want to ) spend? Just a few tweaks will make a difference. If possible I would pull the sofa out a little from the wall, in place of the coffee table perhaps an ottoman ( kid friendly ) , as stated replace or lower gallery wall, if funds $ available replace the oversized chair (loveseat?) that your doggie looks so comfortable on with a chair , rethink the corner shelving & photo arrangement, new window treatments, etc. Overall, the room looks nice.

Can you pull sofa away from the wall, maybe a thin sofa table behind- could add lamps. 2 chairs by the window. And angle the loveseat/bigger seat to the right of the sofa. If you are getting a new TB stand/crenenza, I'd get one that is not as tall and try to lower the TV. Looks too high for seating. The art gallery is nice but also too high. 6-12" max from top of sofa. Mirror looks too high but could just be the photo. Middle of mirror should be about 60-62". There are now battery operated scones that you can use to flank your TV (or even battery operated small stick lamps- that you could move around the room as you need). A soft large ottoman would work as a foot rest and coffee table (and safer with a toddler). Rest a tray on top.

I actually really love the sofas with the current rug, chairs and accent wall.
I think I’d remove all artwork and find some new ones and hang ‘em lower down…
Closed credenza and sconces sound like a lively idea.
What are we thinking for the coffee table ?
