I would choose something larger, but especially in a lighter downrod finish, the black draws too much attention.

I agree larger placement pretty good just always remember island lighting should light the whole island it is task light IMO . I agree no black down rods you could do areally funcky LED linear fixture there but hard to tell if it would go with the drcor since the stools do not say modern to me .

Here are a couple of my options. Since our ceilings are only 8’ high, I am wondering if the ones that are 28” high are too tall since there would only be a couple inches of hanging before the fixture starts.

Sabrina Alfin - thank you! It's not really a remodel perse, just updated a few bathrooms, mudroom and office. I figured as long as we already having electrical, drywall and painters coming, we should go ahead and update any other light fixtures.

What about just spraypainting the black on the current pendants a stainless steel color and replacing the shades?

I personally think they are too small and hung too high. They need to be two inches lower to the island.
