My HardiePlank siding is newly painted. Prior to the painting, the heat exiting from the gas fireplace inside caused vertical staing above the vent outside. To avoid this happening, I am considering installing a hood over the vent but wondering if the backdraft resulting will have an adverse effect on the fireplace operation. Maybe there is a sensor in the exhaust which will prevent it from operating. What about all this?
