You need large samples like Samplize to try next to your furniture, if that’s the gold sofa, as it seems that would help narrow down which ones work or not.
It’s different than the photos that show white upholstery against “ gold” walls because there’s a lot more options with white.

I wish I could go with a warmer gold just in the Great Room but our home is very open with the dining room, entry foyer, kitchen, both staircases and loft adjoining with rounded corners. It’s really making it tough as I don’t want to start over with furnishings and the rug is non-negotiable as it’s quite special. Hoping the wall samples will help. Here’s pics from other parts of the house that will be painted.

I would be in favor of Ballet White or maybe Soft Chamois (also by Ben Moore).

I guess a question is, why are you painting? Is current paint job looking worn so need to paint & naturally looking at new options , has decor evolved in different rooms so a different color is need to pull all together, are you after a certain updated vibe ? I’d probably go “ fresher” but avoiding stark. I do like contrasting trims most of the time, and often you can use a “whiter white” that still works with “tans” but gives a crisper look, or the brighter white trim allows a slightly lighter wall color than the deeper tans because it still is enough contrast.

Great question @marmiegard_z7b! It’s is looking worn after 12 years and we have lightened up the kitchen/nook by adding Merrilat Cotton cabinets to the existing Kona ones original to the house. Going for a lighter, fresher (but not stark) look while still maintaining the warmth of our home.

Your house does not appear to be open concept. Even if it was, you can still use variations of colors, or can in some cases use entirely different colors, to differentiate spaces. Just because you can see one room from another room, does not mean all the rooms have to match.

You can throw a white or cream on your walls - but imo, it will not enhance your LR.

“Light and bright” is not the answer for every space.

I still think gold for LR and you can do the same gold in DR. Or you could do a red in DR - which would pick up your LR rug color; the rug is nice and it is not leaving since it is an heirloom. Red is a very good color to have in dining areas - which is why it is often used in restaurants/eateries. It is also the number 1 power color in Feng Shui. Yellow is number 2.

And btw, the yellow/gold color way is ”back” and trending. PPG’s 2024 color of the year is a yellow, it‘s called ”Limitless”.

BM Pale Oak. Something light and with a touch of gray for more of a museum tranquil feel.

You want a change and the golds and creams and tans mentioned so far are not feeling fresh...just more of the same.

WOW that will be quite the job so fo me if all tht work I would go far away from beige or tan since really that is what you have now so a real change would be my choice . I know everyone one on here is going to bitch but I think a soft hint of grayed green would bea nice change and still very neutral with all your beautiful decor and I would do a white for the trim This is aBM color and I often cut it 50 % for just a hint of colo . I know taking you into a different direction but IMO often a big change is awesome . I would also since this is big job look at some change from all the plantation shutters but tha is definately my hate of those coming out . Ilove to be able to see outside always and I find the plantaion shutters a really heavy look and they block so much view .
