Will the cabinets remain light? I have always loved this combo..I would match the kitchen floor tile for the backsplash…..so classic! and gorgeous with the Uba Tuba countertop…cabinets would be beautiful just a bit warmer. add a bit of drama with sonething painted black…maybe the island.

Thank you! My contractor was a former cabinet maker and he was just going to refinish them but if you have a suggestion on a stain that would be great. We have this same wood throughout the entire house, every door, all the trim so I was hesitant to change the cabinet color. The island has a black counter now and the corrugated steel *(or whatever that is) matches another area and we love that so it's also staying. What floor tile/blacksplash are you recommending, I don't know what that is in the photo. You don't think it would be too busy next to those reclaimed wood floors?

What are the names of the colors on the sample board (top to bottom)? Have you brought home the sample board to see how these options look with the wood floors? Is that one of your cabinets doors lying next to the sample board?

Yes, that is the side of a cabinet and in that photo you can see the rustic reclaimed wood floors we are keeping that are throughout the living room/stairs/everywhere. The colors are (BIG ONE on the left is White) from top to bottom Black, Coffee, Gray and Ivory. This is the sample board and they don't have any other samples for me to take. Thank you!

If the cabinets are in good shape, I would extend the reclaimed wood floor into the kitchen and leave the cabinets alone.

You are already planning to ditch the backsplash that you have, so I would definitely agree with that.

However, if this was my kitchen, I would just change the backsplash and be done. It looks great as is.

I see it now - the floor is to the right in the picture. :-) I agree with @kempek01, I would just change the backsplash if you can't extend the wood into the kitchen (product probably no longer available?). I guess you don't like the variegated look of what you have now, and the tile you're considering is more uniform, but none of the colors strike me as being just right. The black actually looks the best with the wood floors, and you have black countertops, but I wouldn't want a black floor. If you really are going ahead with this, then I will agree with designer in the store. The variegated looks natural and is in keeping with the wood floor, so I think it was a good choice at the time. The backsplash is the element that really looks out of place. Soapstone counters would be perfect.

We are in a remote ski resort and the cleaners have RUINED these expensive reclaimed floors by dragging furniture and using cleaning products so we don't want more scratched floors in the kitchen. My husband is the one who has a bee in his bonnet over this tile flooring. We aren't replacing these black granite counters they were done in the first update we did when we bought the house. It is SO hard and expensive to have work done here that my contractor is driving 12 hours from home to do this project and I have a huge list so I can't do everything. I wish I could put new counters in, the black is so hard to keep clean. I would never do dark counters again. It is also so dusty in the mountains that if we did black floors I would have to clean them 3 times a day and I would rather be outside doing fun activiities.

I would keep it cohesive and continue the black..the black porcelian tile on your sample board would be my suggestion..would be gorgeous and dramatic…from your photos the cabinets apear more yellow…if you decide to change the stain I would go in the direction of the reclamed floor a warmer tone in the brown direction rather than yellow warmth.

his was EXACTLY the type of backsplash I was thinking of, thank you so much. I just read all of these responses and have no convinced my husband to leave the current floor tile (just need to replace a few of the damaged ones). We are definitely changing the lighting under the cabinets, thank you. If you have a prefereed backsplash color please let me know. I also wanted to keep this tile because it is the same tile in the powder room including on top of the vanity and I think it's a cute room.

I’m glad you like the tiles. I honestly love the glazed thin brick. It has a rustic surface and shape, but it is glazed, so easy to clean. And this would be a beautiful place to use them. The other color option would be a charcoal/black that goes with the counters, but I like the lighter options. Here is a rough mock-up of color choices.

You’ll either go light cream to caramel, or charcoal to black. I really like Big Horn, but this is about what you like. You can see all the colors here.

Thank you sooooo, sooooo much for taking the time to do this and help me. You are right the black looks terrific but with this small kitchen I think I might prefer the lighter color. I personally like the tone of BIG HORN the best.

I dont think a color that is close to the light wood cabinets is going to be the right choice…try to match one if the warm colors in your floor tile..like a terra cotta rust brick color if not the black.
