The headboard is the star. I wouldn’t put the slatted wall behind it.

Without the slatted wall, you can do any of the furniture options without worrying about how to coordinate it with the wall.

I agree with eld6161, even for a texture lover, this will be too much. With a slat wall you want a much plainer headboard. Since you have already bought the headboard you can save yourself the expense and effort of installing the slats.

Way too much no wood wall with thta bed .The night tables shown in the pic of the bed are perfect simple useful and not too much . Guest rooms IMO should be a restful and comfortable so the best mattress , bedding you can do . Good lights for bedside and some storage in the closet no dressers needed . A nice bench at the foor of the bed for a spot to unload luggage and sit to put on shoes. A cair is always a nice idea and if you have the space a coffee maker . We insatlled one in our guest room along witha TV and have had so many guest appreciate both

Thank you everyone for your input - will try just the headboard with no accent wall and see how it looks. I like the bench idea Patricia - do you think a neutral and simple bench design is best? I’m torn between that and a fluffy mongolian lambswool bench but maybe that‘s too much.

You don't have to do the slat wall behind the bed. If you want more texture, look at textured pillows, textured artwork, and textured rugs. Along with small blankets and perhaps baskets. Here are some images of various bedrooms we have done that might give you more ideas.
