Flooring for a home addition

We are adding 500 square feet onto the back of our ranch house. The addition will include a larger kitchen with dining space and a mudroom. It will be semi-open concept to the living room which has original hardwood. The wall to the left of the television will be opened up and the wall to the right will be opened up another 2 feet. The hallway and bedrooms are right there on the right since it’s a ranch. We don’t want to break the bank on tile. I know we could do unfinished hardwood and have it stained but we already have some hardwood scratches so I am concerned with how it will hold up in the kitchen. I also know it will likely be more than lvp. We like light oak lvp but do not want to replace floors in the bedrooms and they all have dark hardwood. Is that ok?
I would love to hear any recommendations from professionals or any pictures of floor transitions from people who have already made similar decisions.
