For a relatively common North American tree - and I'd put Sitka Spruce in that category - if they could grow well in your area, you'd see them. If Monterrey Cypress grew in Nashville, you'd see them. If redwoods grew in Nashville, you'd see them. Ergo, if you don't see them around, they probably don't.
