That's a tough question. Maybe privacy film, which would block some light?

My thought is the easiest covering is a wall mounted white shade the width of the widest part of oval. I’d want the shade to have no hanging strings over the bed so it would be the type to push up / pull down. If privacy is an issue - a shade with a daylight & nighttime function. Don’t know what they are called but they do exist.

That can't be the only window in the room because there is no egress from this window.

If light is an issue. place art or a wardrobe cabinet in front of the window.

It's a little bit different, but I immediately thought of a port hole cover. Perhaps a local carpenter could make one and install it with some type of hinge.

I am worried about the unanswered question about the location of an egress window. No bedroom in America is legal without a way to escape in case of a fire. Our windows had to be big enough to allow a firefighter with breathing apparatus entry into the bedroom for rescue.

I’m not concerned about other windows in that room - I assume since it’s a bedroom that there must be. A friend’s home has a bedroom with a round window much like the poster’s & it’s not the only window in that bedroom.

A cordless roman shade slightly wider than the window and hung higher than the window to make the window seem taller.

I like the three suggestions of a pull down (no cords!) slightly wider and taller. He’ll probably have it down most of the time b/c hey he’s 11 and won’t think to draw it up , but it’ll work and look good from both sides.

IMO a piece of art of some kind with a color on the back that works with the exterior and be done easily changed as his interests change and later just remove the art.

I've never heard of purposely blocking a window with furniture or art.

We have a 'porthole' window in our bedroom and used the same blackout drapes to the floor as the other windows. Just one panel.

You guys are right, he is never going to pull it up. There is a huge window (on the same wall) that will let in plenty of light. I think covering it with art now, will give me options later. I would prefer for him to put his bed on a different wall but he's insistent its in this corner.

The room is definitely bland right now only b/c all his stuff is boxed up still. It's a work in progress!

It is true. Kids never open curtains/blinds. Both of my granddaughters have had the bed by the windows and neither opens them.
