I say go for it, depending on how much you're spending. If you're buying a really large, expensive B&B tree for a wet area, might be more sensible to get something well known to deal with that, like a bald cypress.

One of my bicolors gets some standing water most yrs like you say, late winter and early spring, and is fine. Plant high!

Yes I will mound up a bit. I put a stick at the spot this morning and walked around the sight lines, and a tree would look good there. A fairly large area should be raised, really. My laziness won't get more than a few wheelbarrows of soil dumped I'm sure.
