Is your garage finished, attic accessible? can you put insulation batts between

the studs and joists?

If yes, go with an insulated door - that’s a beginning.

Here’s a pic of ours. Northern IL and heater barely ran to maintain 50 degrees but would quickly warm to house temperature for project work or expanded entertaining space.

My garage is finished, but not by me and was done without insulation. The attic is accessible to put batts or blown-in. Getting insulation into the walls would require making holes in the drywall I think.

@frankmarsh - only the back garage wall connects to the house and only 2/3 of it. With bedrooms above, the garage ceiling is well insulated. I had batts installed in the walls during the build.

Ceiling is where greatest heat loss occurs. Insulate there for sure if you plan to temperature control the garage.
