I am trying to complete an interior design project for which I have visuals and detailed schemes. The designer that made them has preference towards MDF/laminate materials and therefore the look of the whole thing is very nice and sleek, but I am trying to avoid the engineered wood and substitute with solid wood. I am however concerned about the following points:

1. I think that since most of the time the cabinet base is made of laminate it should not be a problem to substitute that with a durable oak/iroko solid wood - it should be similar or better in terms of moisture resistance and so on but is that actually the case ?

2. The wooden elements in the visualization are oak so that is the easy part. For the grey I was thinking wood (iroko maybe, I have easy access to a lot of it for a very decent price) painted with a thick layer of some high quality paint (benjamin moore for example) so that it gets that sleek look. Is that possible (hiding the wood texture with acrylic paint) ? Is that going to be at least somewhat child-proof (I have heard painted MDF is not anyways and I suppose this is similar) ?

Does anyone have experience in replicating the modern MDF-type look with real solid wood materials ? Any recommendations and suggestions are welcome, I am still getting familiar with that and do not know much myself.
