Help with kitchen cabinets

My son and his wife are redoing their kitchen. It’s an older home so appliances can’t be moved. The cabinet to the right of fridge looks off to me. What do you think? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We will need to see the 2D overhead kitchen plan view in order to help you.

I am guessing that the cabinet to the right of the fridge is planned to be a ”blind corner“ with some sort of a rev-a-shelf pullout contraption? The door being full height suggests that.

The cabinet to the left of the fridge has a cabinet door and a top drawer. So I assume that is a dead corner?

It looks like there is a narrow “spice” pullout next to the corner, then a dishwasher, then a farm style sink?

We need the actual cabinet plan, not just the 3D renderings.

Actual photos of the existing space would help as well.

Please see this thread if you would like kitchen layout advice.

An older home doesn’t inherently mean appliances can’t be moved. The fridge location viz a viz the range is awful. If they’re going to the expense of redoing the kitchen, don’t skimp on the electrician and plumber.

In many situations, appliances CAN be moved. Is there a crawl space below the kitchen? If so, the gas line can be moved if a better location for the stove becomes obvious.

Can you take the cabinets to the ceiling?

Get rid of the clipped corner and shift the range over a bit.

The son and his wife should be asking for themselves since it's their project.

Appliances absolutely can (and in this case should) be moved, even in an older home. We did a largely DIY remodel and still moved the gas range and refrigerator; it was a pretty minimal cost relative to the rest of the project. Hard to offer much layout advice without a floor plan, but even from these photos it's clear that moving the refrigerator would make an enormous difference to open up contiguous counter workspace.

Are you talking about the bottom cabinet on the right of the frig? If so, yes, it looks really off. To make it match, it needs a drawer on top, like one on the left, or the left one needs to be made without a drawer to match the right. Personally, I would keep those top drawers, they are useful for many things.
