Cabinet adjustment for new Washer/Dryer height

I am having to replace a very old washer and dryer set which have a lower height (36in) than the current American models (39in). The current laundry cabinets were made custom to that older set and I am being told to lift the entire countertop and add a spacer to adjust to the new appliances' height. I am concerned it will look weird and also (especially) about the ergonomics of working with such unusually high countertops. Does anyone have experience with that? If so, what is your experience? Also if anyone can provide pictures to help me visualize what it looks like, that would be wonderful. Thanks

Is there a reason you have to raise the countertops? The cabinet with sink in our laundry room is 36" high. The dryer sitting next to it is on a pedestal and 51" high. It doesn't bother me. (The laundry room is not a home dec focal point for us, but we are retired and our give-a-darn meter is broke.) ;-)

You can get shorter washer/dryer ( look at bosch ) but they will be a small capacity and are usually about 33-34" tall since that is the typical height of a cabinet.

Do you really need the countertop?

We are trying to maintain the countertop space and this would provide minimum disruption.

We are considering other options but I just can't visualize this particular one.

I will try to find a picture of the current set up but the space is torn apart right now as we try to look at the current hookups and constraints behind the current machine.

Debbi Washburn, this is one of the options we are considering and I've been looking into the Bosch and Miele models, but I am concerned that it would require us to run multiple loads a week in order to meet our needs.

I wouldn't want smaller machines, either. Is someone in your household handy, or would you have to hire someone to alter the cabinetry? Raising the top doesn't sound too difficult, but we really need to see a picture to be able to have an opinion.

There are still many top load washer/dryer models that are 36" tall at the front edges. Whirlpool has a good selection. Speedqueen has several models.

First front load wahser can be filled with laundry not matter what size they are . I have had a Bosch for 18 yrs just replsced with a Samsung it is 39" high but my caibinets are now 18' space not 21" but still are fine . I think most people do not understand front load washers they can handle just the asame load as top load even more actually , a ton less detergent too. I do not like Miele washers they take way too long to do a load . So far love the new Samsung and all the ways to choose wash cycles. So get a front load and then the cabinets can stay.

Can the countertop be cut, so you just have a taller section over the new machines?
